This is our year, and by "our", I mean the Mets and us, their fans. October belongs to the New York Mets.

Bingo. If you are going by kahnfidence based on the calendar date, there's no way you can be more confident now than last year.

I was more confident that the Mets would win the division last year. . . but also at this time last year they had been playing flat and uninspired baseball for quite sometime. A hot start followed by a number of months of no better than 500 ball.

So I don't feel as confident that the Mets will make the playoffs, but I do feel better about the team. . . so I voted more confident.

Last year would have sucked ass even if we had made the playoffs. I mean, the playoffs would have been nice to get to, but we sure didn't spend the balance f the year playing like we belonged there and we got what we deserved.

This year's team eventually became more fun to watch, but they're still remarkably prone to the cockpunch loss so my CAHNfidence ain't that high.

Last year's team seemed most likely headed toward the playoffs, but also headed toward an uninspiring exit.

This year's model seems less likely to make the playoffs, but more likely to prosper there.

They are also getting players back, when last year we were spending the summer watching Delgado and Reyes diminish, rounding out the rotation with Brian Lawrences and hoping Pedro could return with something to offer.

Surprisingly, he did alright. But the boat had too many holes for him to patch by September.

The bullpen is undermining my kahn, sure, but I'm still pleased that Minaya didn't go deadline nuts. They seem to have done a great job rebuilding the farm (or the farm has done a great job re-asserting itself) eight months after the Santana deal supposedly gutted it. With a nucleus for the next several years of Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Church, Maine, and Pelfrey, a healthy farm to augment that and a lot of money coming off the books in a new stadium, I have trouble not thinking about this team as being in the first year of an impressive run.

The Mets are an adorable young woman about to be come a mature sex bomb.

And I'll probably have better luck seeing them down here in DC for the next few years than youse will have getting seats at Citi. Suckers.
