The undersigned (as signed by a dot, or message) ask you to PLEASE,
after the all-star break, to STOP showing Derek Jeter commercials for
Ford, for charity, world peace, etc.

We are sick and tired of seeing him during Mets' games. Sick and tired.

Thank you.

.

I don't even see the commercials (one benefit of living in the south) and I'm still signing the petition. No Mets fans should have to look at his smug Yankee mug during a Mets telecast.

As I was watching the game tonight, my cat was sitting on my chest. They played the "You know he has an Edge" commercial twice in a row. I could see my cat had an angry expression on her face.

I said to her, "You're only seven months old. I've been hearing about Jeter for the last fourteen years!"

I can't even get SNY in Michigan and I'm still pissed about it.

G-FAFIF will back up the fact that MK has been known to say, out of the blue, "I'll never buy a Ford because Derek Jeter is in their commercials."

My instinct is to hit the channel down button when one of those commercials comes on, but that puts me on the Nancy Grace Channel (Court TV, I think). NOT an improvement. I either go back to the game or watch "LI Traffic and Weather" for a couple of minutes.

Stay off the Southern State tonight, BTW.

Construction, I think. I don't really pay attention, I just do it so I don't feel compelled to stab the next person I see who "has an edge."

How do these people get on TV? Nancy Grace makes Larry King look informed. I'm serious.

I love the part where Elizabeth is rolling her eyes at Nancy's banality.

What do you do during the commercials? Turn off the TV? Change the channel? That's too much trouble for me; I'd have to keep reminding myself to turn back to the game two and a half minutes later.

I write stupid messages on the messageboard.

Ugh, edgy. . .it was bad enough that I was talking about her in this thread. . . why did you have to go and post a video of her?

I can't always do it with baseball games, since they're the only TV I ever watch "live", but since the advent of the VCR (and now TiVo) most of everything I watch, including some baseball games, are time-shifted, so I can fast-forward through commercials.

In other words, the only commercials I'm even aware of at all are those that are on SNY during Mets games. So I do know about Giuseppe Franco, and the Edge, and Beer Money. But I'd say that about a third of the time I'm zapping through them.

With the mute button on of course so you can't even hear the annoying commercial.

The judges also would have accepted:
- take out the garbage
- do the dishes
- go in the kitchen and fix a drink

I'm actually much more likely to be annoyed by radio comercials since, unless you're in the car, there's usually not a remote at hand. Plus they tend to be even more repetitious than TV spots.

Part of the problem also is that I don't think SNY has the advertising world eating out of their hands at this point and are probably selling their time in bulk rate to their not-so-numerous clients.
So a suggstion of canceling the Ford/Jeter ad would probably be met by cries of; 'But that's 40% of our revenue!!'

It seems that baseball broadcasts have always suffered from high repetition in commercials. I would think that if you watched an hour of a prime-time hit show, like Grey's Anatomy or CSI you might not see any commercials more than once, or maybe twice, in the hour. (I'm just guessing here.)

But during a baseball broadcast you'll often see the same commercial in every (or every other) inning break. When we were young, my sister and I would practically recite the Garcia Y Vega cigar commercials every time they aired. And I also recall a few Oldsmobile commercials that played again and again.

Probably even moreso in the old days when the TV sports viewer was looked at as almost exclusively blue-collar males and each team's sponsors consisted of a brand of beer, cigarettes (back when that was legal), and gasoline.

I can't remember the cigarettes (although old yearbooks would probably tell us) but the Mets were Rheingold and Sinclair while the Yanx were Ballantine and 'Flying A'

To underscore that she's so inane that a teenager who has spent years in captivity and perhaps brainwasheed still finds her beyond the pale.

Picture-in-picture dude.

Turn the PIP on and keep the Met game on the little screen, when you see the action coming back on 'swap' it out. Bam.

Even that would require me paying too much attention.

I think my TV has picture-in-picture, but I've never looked into it.

I'm learning that we all have our own ways of watching TV, and what's wonderful for one person is a hassle for another.
