"The Brewers and the Cleveland Indians agreed to a deal for the reigning AL Cy Young on Sunday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The newspaper reports the deal is contingent on paperwork being finished and the exchange of medical records.
Cleveland would get Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta, who is hitting .288 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 84 games for Huntsville, and two other minor leaguers in return, according to the Journal Sentinel. The two other players do not include top prospects Alcides Escobar or Mat Gamel."

At the time of the 2007 draft, LaPorta's selection at No. 7 overall may have seemed curious. What were the Brewers doing taking a first baseman�a college senior, no less�that high when they had Prince Fielder entrenched at the same position? LaPorta may not be smooth in the outfield, but he more than makes up for it with his bat. He leads all Double-A batters in home runs, and ranks fifth in slugging, fourth in RBIs and second in extra-base hits (44). With LaPorta, Gamel and Escobar, the Brewers have the type of position-player prospect depth to rival any organization. So who's laughing now?

3 different Brewer prospects were listed as mid-season All-Stars, LaPorta plus the two they were apparently able to keep out of the deal.

Baseball card geeks spooge over LaPorta; I guess we'll see. Wouldn't be surprised to see Cleveland bring him up this year.

Good. I'm glad he's not a Phillie or a Yankee.

Although there's a chance that the Wild Card might come down to a battle between the Mets and the Brewers. If that happens, then maybe I'd rather he was a Phillie or a Yankee.

The way things are going, the WC will come out of the Central this year with Cubbies, Brews & Cards fighting out for two spots. All 3 of those clubs have better records right now than EVERY West or East team.

It's been 26 years since Milwaukee has gone to the playoffs...the longest drought of any current franchise save the Expos/Nats.

Milwaukee, from my visits there, has good fans. Twenty-six years is too long to go without playoff baseball.

Obviously I have no general interest in them competing with the Mets.

We're closer to Philadelphia than to Milwaukee, so at this point I see no reason to worry about the wildcard. Sabathia has very clearly righted his ship after a horrible start to the season, so he looks to be a huge asset for Milwaukee. The Cubs and the Cardinals are now in a position where they're almost forced to counter if they wish to keep up.

I still root for the Brewers to compete for the AL East title.

Seriously, there's something about the Seligness of Milwaukee that makes me root against them. I'd rather see Cincy or Pittsburgh take it!

LaPorta is no surprise..Huge upside..David Wrightish...Nice sell by the Indians...
