metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 (edited) The Mets hit Los Angeles after winning a tough series in Phoenix that featured some mouth watering pitching duels. This series will feature some sleep inducing " duels" which won't help with the 10PM start time here in the east. The Dodgers loss Sunday put a halt to an 8 game winning streak , even with being a very hot team they are 4 games behind the D-Backs. They scored 70 runs in those 8 games so what was a dormant offense seems to have awakened. Pitching DuelsErotic Oliver Perez goes in the first game against hard luck pitcher Chad Billingsley , Perez is 2 - 2 with a plus 4 ERA , only 29 innings pitched in 6 starts with 21 BB and 28 SO , It's his walk year and at this rate he'll be run out of NY.Billingsley is 1 - 5 with a plus 5 ERA with only 27 innings pitched in 7 games, 17 BB with 40 SO , he's pitched better than the win / loss indicates , his last outing against the Marlins he finally got the win , that game was the fourth consecutive time that he SO at least right. His first four starts his team only scored 10 total runs for him. This start will be his first against the Mets. Tuesday Nelson Figueroa goes after being skipped in his last turn due to the rain , he did pitch in relief two days later and went 3 1/3 innings , who knows what to expect from Nelson, he's pitched OK and his first start was a nice story.Hiroki Kuroda seems like a decent pick up by the Dodgers , he sports an 3.82 ERA with 20 SO in 37.1 innings , in Japan he pitched for Hiroshima Toyo Carp . Hiroki wears number 18 which I found out recently from an expert during a radio interview is the number worn by stud pitchers in Japan. Wdnesday John Maine versus Brad Penny in the marque duel at Chavez Ravine to finish out this series , this is a day game with a 3:10 start in the east.Penny is 5 - 11 against the Mets lifetime , 2 - 1 last season . IIRC for a time he couldn't beat the Mets , that may have been when he was with the Marlins.Maine lost twice to the Dodgers last season , John sports a plus 5 ERA against the Dodgers.Dodgers should look something like this.FurcalPierreKempKentMartinLoneyJonesEitherA Jones is finished by the looks of things , what happened?kemp kills the Mets , in 15 games with 45 AB's Kemp has 4 home runs with 12 RBI , most of those numbers come against the Mets at home.Joe Torre is the manager for the Dodgers , expect lots of NY media out there asking silly questions and looking for silly angles. The X Factor.Jeff KentChan Ho ParkGary BennettThis year the Dodgers celebrate 50 years in Los Angeles .Here are some great pictures from down the years in this wonderful special from the LA Times.50 YearsAll Time Dodgers teamAll Time TeamI'm sure that All Time team caused a stir. Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 ="metirish"]That should be erratic, no idea what I was thinking right there.Oh, I think I know what you were thinking! Very Freudian!
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 I'm guessing he's get an oversexualized spell-checker.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 This is a really big start for Oliver Perez. It was plainly obvious he needed a big outing last time around, given his recent performances, and obviously didn't deliver, generating hate from Wagner, etc etc. The right medicine would be a blowout win in which Wagner is not needed.Get ready for a lack of sleep this week.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 - Raffy Furcal, whose power numbers did a major dip last season, suddenly is having the best power numbers of his career. I find that very annoying.- Everyone else in their starting lineup not named Andruw is off to a hot start too- LA has a rookie backup SS from Taiwan Chin-Lung Hu, which ruins a good comedy routine because from now ow ... wait for it ... Hu's on short!- The bullpen trio of Saito, Broxton & Beimel aren't going to be a picnic, although I believe Torre is contractually obligated to call on Scott Proctor at least once a game
