MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 ]Should all the Mets players on the roster last night be added to #42 on the Mets By The Numbers site? And, should they be there with an asterisk? (and explanation) Later

Guest Triple Dee Guests Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Although my opinion on this counts for very little, I believe it should be disregarded because;- The number is officially retired. - The number is not "assigned" to the players who wear it.- The purpose of wearing the number is to commemorate another player, not as a source of identifying the player who wears it. - If this happens in other seasons, then you have you're just going to have a long list of 25 man rosters from those particular years. - The number will lose its significance for Mets who actually wore it as their assigned number.

If David Wright today decided to switch to # 4, but ends up taking tonight's game off and then decides he really ought to stay at # 5 and is back in # 5 for Friday night in Philly, then MBTN will not count David Wright as ever wearing # 4, despite whatever photographic or video evidence of Wright in # 4 tonight in the dugout would come up.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I think I'm just going to note it as a special circumstance on the "Player" pages of each guy who participated. It doesn't look like I noted that Randolph wore 42 last season and no one has yet complained.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 I'm with DDD -- this isn't really a Met number, it's a baseball tribute number. Maybe noted as a footnote.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 17, 2008 Posted April 17, 2008 Something like this, I'll eventually do to all of them. Thanks for the input. To integrate that circumstance would be to "interrupt" all the instances I have now for additional ones, it's kinda silly.http://mbtn.net/player/reyes-jose
