metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 no. save arod, everyone else on that list had the decline phase of their career drag down their career average.if you were to compare berkman to the rest of the folks on that list at the same age and/or plate appearances, then you'd have something far more comparable.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 also, OPS+ would be more useful as well, as it accounts for park and league effects.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Maybe, you may want to adjust recent players for your personal steroids suspicions.A couple of guys will go up or down a notch or two on that list when you factor in career length. Certainly Pujols and Helton will drop.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 Dick Allen should be a Hall of Famer.Dave Orr played parts of eight seasons between 1883-1890, so I think we can take him off the list.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I'm tellign you. (OPS+ - 60) * PA. There's your list.

Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Author Posted April 16, 2008 I looked up Dave Orr. His last season was his best -- playing for Monte Ward's Players' League team, he was hitting .371 with 124 RBIs when he suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 I agree with seawolf. Dick Allen should be a Hall of Famer.
