Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Edgy, nice work, but I'm quite sure that David Wright has amassed some total bases (12) in the 2008 season.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Yeah, he was supposed to start at 1078. Too much cutting and pasting.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Here's something rare in Mets history (more rare than it ought to be, as a matter of fact): A player hitting his 100th home run as a Met.This year, it looks like it will happen twice, with David Wright currently at 98 and Carlos Beltran at 90. (And if Carlos Delgado has that big comeback we've been hoping for, but not expecting, he can also join the 100 Club this season. He'll need 38 home runs in 2008. He's done it before, but it doesn't seem likely that he'll do it again.) One hundredth home runs have never occurred more than once in the same Mets season before. No Met has reached this milestone in almost seven years. Here are the eight previous times a Mets player has hit number 100: Ed Kranepool August 3, 1976Dave Kingman August 18, 1981Darryl Strawberry August 27, 1986Howard Johnson June 21, 1989Kevin McReynolds September 11, 1990Todd Hundley May 5, 1997Mike Piazza September 22, 2000Edgardo Alfonzo August 18, 2001
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 How about the collection of star crossed Mets whose careers ended too ugly for them to get into that club?Foster (99)Boniilla (95), and Jones (93).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Prediction: David Wright doesn't finish the year with 636 total bases
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Way to jinx the guy!Reyes, meanwhile, added one today and is tied with Rusty Staub. That's fitting, as they are such similar players.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Hot Rod can pitch. At least pre-op Hot Rod.

Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Terrell's 3 were in two starts. (OE: No they weren't. Four starts. Stupid memory.)I think at least one of Cardwell's homers was as a starter. Didn't he and Koos somehow pitch a doubleheader sweep where both games were 1-0 complete game jobbies with teh pitcher homering for the only run?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Cardwell and Koosman each had the RBI's in that doubleheader, but I don't think they came on homers.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2008 Posted April 18, 2008 It looks like Steve Trachsel will end up being the winningest Mets pitcher of the decade:http://leaptoad.com/mets/decades.php?ThisDecade=2000And Tom Glavine will be the inningest.Piazza still leads the decade in a few categories, but by the end of next season, he may not lead in any.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 One hundredth home run as a Met (updated again):Ed Kranepool August 3, 1976Dave Kingman August 18, 1981Darryl Strawberry August 27, 1986Howard Johnson June 21, 1989Kevin McReynolds September 11, 1990Todd Hundley May 5, 1997Mike Piazza September 22, 2000Edgardo Alfonzo August 18, 2001David Wright April 13, 2008Carlos Beltran June 16, 2008Don't know who's going to be next. Delgado, if he has an unexpected resurgence AND returns next year. (Extreme long shot, I'd say.) Otherwise, Jose Reyes, unless the Mets import a slugger who can overcome Jose's 53+ head start.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 Jose Reyes has broken the all-time Mets record for triples with his 63rd the other night.Reyes is now:1st in triples2nd in stolen bases8th in runs scored11th in hits12th in total bases (one behind David Wright, seven behind Jerry Grote)13th in at-bats14th in doubles22nd in games played24th in strikeouts (tied with Tom Seaver)25th in runs batted in28th in home runs (tied with Butch Huskey and Wayne Garrett)29th in walks (one behind Gary Carter)
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 If Reyes gets re-signed after his current contract is up, either he and Wright will likely hold the lead in every single counting offensive statistic.

Delgado did have that "unexpected resurgence" and now had 99 home runs as a Met. He looks really likely to become the next guy in the 100 club. Hopefully this year. Hopefully tonight. But even if he doesn't, I'm sure he'll get more chances in 2009.George Foster, by the way, is the one Met who has remained forever stuck at 99 home runs.
