stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 (edited) Two more Cleveland wins and Paul Byrd will join Kazuo Matsui as the 174th and 175th future or former Met to appear on a World Series Roster.Note I am not counting returning Mets since if I count say Lee Mazzilli or Bobby Bonillia, should I not count Tug McGraw or Randy Myers whose Met stints were broken up despite still being in the organization? Also guys like Ramon Castro on the 2003 Marlins do not count, even though he has a ring, he does not appear on the Marlin Postseason roster.Starting it off easy with 1947 through 1968, there are 40 of them, many should be quite easy to get, especially the first 10.I'll fill some semblance of an order as we go. Guest vtmet Guests Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Rox manager Clint Hurdle and pitching coach Bob Apodaca may not be on the WS "roster" since they aren't players, but in addition to Kaz/Byrd both are also former Mets players (Hurdle also was named manager of the year while managing in the Mets farm system; Apodaca was pitching coach for the Mets up until '99...Mets may not pitch "no hitters" or get into many World Series, but they sure can when they aren't wearing a Mets uniform...
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Hurdle does appear on the list, but we have a ways to go 'till then

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Well we are doing the first couple of decades first, so its 3 down, 37 to go.For what it's worth, this years Mets team contributed to new records for the most Metly World Series ever to not include the Met franchise as well as the most former and future Mets ever on a World Series roster. Also the 1969-1970 Orioles and the 1970 Reds are the only teams not to feature a future or a former Met on their World Series roster since 1947, when the first two future Mets appeared on a World Series roster.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Also if Paul Byrd makes it, it will be the first time since 1981 that 2 former or future Mets (course that can change over time) will have made a World Series roster. If the Red Sox come back and win, it will mark the first time since someone faced his future team with the '73 A's that there will be one former or future Met on either World Series Rosters.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 wouldn't it be more fun to split up the futures from the formers?
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2007 Author Posted October 16, 2007 Okay then, the first 30 are all futures, in fact of the first 40, all but 4 are future Mets
