Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 Game 2:Cubs were leading 2-0 until Chris Young hit a loooonnnng 3R HR w/2 out in the 2nd.As soon as the ball was hit Cubbie pitcher Ted Lilly took off his glove and spiked the thing into the ground to the point where there may be a crater. Never even bothered to look at the ball ... didn't have to.Now it's 4-2 as Eric Byrnes gets an RBI 3B off the top of the wall.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 You know what I find creepy about this series? The Diamondbacks changed their colors to red, sand and black this season. You would think with them going to a couple of playoffs and winning a World Series over the past 10 years that you would see more of the turquoise/purple/copper colors from the fans who have been rooting for them from the beginning. But when the crowd is panned over, it seems every Diamondback fan is wearing the new red. It's like their merchandise department let them trade in all of their old stuff for new stuff. Seems like there should be more fans with "lucky 2001 jerseys" or "the cap I wore when they won it all in 2001".
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Ya gotta remember that most of the people who live in Arizona have moved there in the last 18 months so they're either:a) Cubs fansor new to baseball and are only vaugely aware of the 2001 championship
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2007 Posted October 4, 2007 i was there early this year to see the home team lose, and tehre were some fans complaining that the old colors were so much better. i disagreed, naturally.but they do have a really nicely stocked merchandise section. and good beers.not as good as the leinenkugel summer shandy's in minnesota, but still good.certainly better than bud, bud light, or bud select if you're lucky.in both places though, they're stupid enough to throw baseballs back onto the field.

Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 I enjoy a cold Leiny's myself. I've been to their park a couple of times -- it's flat-out ugly from the outside, just a big wall with advertising banners all over. Inside it is nice, lots of room on the concourses.I found myself yesterday admiring the Dbags color scheme last night, especially the black uni numbers on their blinding white home unis. I know I was against their moving to "brick" but admit it looks 'aight. Still don't like the D-Backs onm the front tho.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 The problem is it looks a'ight on everybody, with the Strohs going to to a brickish look also this year. The Reds' red also got a little smokier. For good measure, Superman's red had a brickish quality in his last film.Give me unimpressive but distinctive over impressive yet homogenous.
Farmer Ted Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 The Teds stumbled into the Fridays in leftfield while in AZ a few springs ago. The restaurant is open to the public but you need to buy and reserve tables to eat there during the game (in a separate ticket gig from the D-Bags). Had a nice meal overlooking the field. Grounds crew was struggling to get the grass grown and/or green with a dozen fluorescent lamps scattered about the infield and shallow right field. Pool boys were doing their thing in right field. Friends tell me that since the team usually isn't that exciting for most of the season, Fridays is the way to go to see a game. The bartenders were very generous with the Captain Morgan.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2007 Posted October 6, 2007 I hoped the Mets would still be playing now.Okay, that didn't work out.I was hoping for a Cubs/Phils NLCS.Looks like this season I will not get anything I hoped for.Hope I get what I want for Christmas.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2007 Posted October 7, 2007 I was hoping for Rockies vs. Diamondbacks, so I'm delighted, especially with the Phillies' quick exit.If Cleveland completes the sweep today I'll be able to enjoy a tension-free baseball October.
