Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I don't know if everyone is on the Mets listserv, but Matt Davis posted this :"You can pin the turning point of the season to the day that Mota cameback from suspension. Before: 33-17 (.660)After: 55-57 (.491)So, the true culprit is Minaya for giving the Mets bad karma andbringing the cheater backFWIW, 2006 and 2007:With Mota off roster: 108-65 (.624)With Mota on roster: 77-74 (.510)"
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 That's fun --- and probably not entirely baseless --- but I'd like something more tangible than karma.I've known a few teams to flourish with cheaters, known and unknown.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Yeah, but if we can just blame the whole thing on one guy, then we can shut the hell up about this "Trade Jose" crap. And since nobody likes Mota, and he sucks, why not him?
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 He'll be gone. Same with Shittyweis.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I hear you.But when the scapegoat is sent off into the wilderness, and then we find out the problem is (or problems are) actually still in house somewhere, then, oh, s'it!I'm curious what sort of characters get brought in to shore up this bullpen, or will they look more closely at the coming Zephs than they did at Ring and Bell and Lindstrom and Owens.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 But way to pump up his trade vaule by renaming him.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 What the heck are you going to do with Schoeneweis? Dude's under contract for two more years. Get used to him. I'm over him, and I'm looking forward to having him back.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I see us trading Schoeneweis to Pittsburgh, Cincy, Tampa Bay, Baltimore or the like for a prospect or two.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Those teams do not exist for the Mets to dump bad contracts on.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 ?!?!I see you as drunk at 3:30 in the afternoon on a Monday. Why would a second-division team like the Pirates or the Devil Rays want a highly-paid lefty specialist? If by "prospect" you mean "bloated veteran contract," maybe you're right.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I see Omar trading Schoeneweis to either Florida,Pittsburgh,Philly,Atlanta, ,Yankees,Tampa,Toronto,Baltimore,Kansas,Angels,Boston,Cleveland,Arizona,Chicago,Los Angeles,Houston,Texas,Seattle,Oakland,St. Louis,Washington or Cincinnati for a prospect , or just cutting his ass.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 Perhaps by "trading," he means "sending along with 80% of his salary," and by "prospect," he means "guy in the minors."
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 If I only had a beer. I'm fucking miserable.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I do sympathize, Valadius. If the Mets had collapsed in 1986 I would have been devastated. (I was 23 at the time.)I do hope that you see another Mets World Championship in your lifetime. Hell, I hope we see another one in Jack LaLanne's lifetime. (He just turned 93 the other day.)I remember seeing those dejected white-haired Cubs fans back in 2003 after they blew the NLCS to the Marlins. I was so glad I had 1986; I'd never be an old man fretting that I'd never seen my team win a World Series. 1986 has given me a peace of mind that helps me deal with 1999 or 2007.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I thought it was Ricky who turned Reyes on to the spleef.But,....It could have been Mota.Maybe he brought a bag in with him.A hefty bag.Do they test for that in baseball? Its not exactly a performance enhancing drug.
