Amazing Stats:

Baltimore Bullpen-- 4 IP, 24 ER

Even better: A Texas pitcher recorded a save in a game that was decided by 27 runs.

You wouldn't think a 15 spot (Dodgers over the Phils) would be half the amount of runs scored by a team in another game.

Also the Braves lost.

DT: >>>Even better: A Texas pitcher recorded a save in a game that was decided by 27 runs.<<<

How?

That didn't occur to me, but of course you and DT are correct.

The official scorer shall credit a pitcher with a save when such pitcher meets all four of the following conditions:

(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his team;
(2) He is not the winning pitcher;
(3) He is credited with at least a third of an inning pitched; and
(4) He satisfies one of the following conditions:

(a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches at least one inning;
(B) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batters he faces); or
© He pitches for at least three innings.

I like the part where the Texas 8 & 9 hitters combined for 8 hits and [u:3f8ad4bc49]14 RBIs[/u:3f8ad4bc49] - yet #3 hitter Michael Young had [u:3f8ad4bc49]none[/u:3f8ad4bc49]

Or that Baltimore actually led 3-0

Or that the score was "only" 14-3 after 7

Baltimore pitcher Brian Burres gets charged with 8 ER in 2/3 of an inning. THAT can't be good for the ol' ERA

Time of Game = 3:21
I think there have been 3-2 NYY games that have taken longer than that

I can't believe Jay Payton didn't pitch.

BoSox get 9 hits (6 1Bs & 3 2Bs) plus 6 BBs and a HBP ... and lose 2-1
Man you almost have to try to not score with that many baserunners and they didn't even hit into any DPs. They did have one runner thrown out on the basepaths so there were 14 LOBs.

3rd time this year the DevilDogs beat Matsuzaka - though this one hardly his fault

"That was ridiculous. I have never been in anything like that in my life," said Saltalamacchia, who went 4-for-6 with a walk and scored five runs. He came in batting .179 and finished at .262.

David Murphy had five of the Rangers' 29 hits, the most by a major league team since Milwaukee had 31 in a 22-2 victory over Toronto on Aug. 28, 1992, according to Elias.

Texas' 30 RBIs set a major league record. The Rangers had 57 at-bats, tying the AL mark for a nine-inning game set by Milwaukee in its 1992 rout of Toronto.

The Rangers added five points to their team batting average, raising it to .258. They finished with more runs than outs made (27).

Baltimore's ERA went from 4.39 to 4.60.

Amazin'. Only 14-3 until the final two innings.

More amazin' that it happened at home for the poor O's. Had there not been a second game, I wonder how many would have stuck it out until the final pitch.

Baltimore lost the second game 9 - 7,with a combined 39 runs Texas broke the record for runs scored in a doubleheader ,the previous record was 36 runs scored by the Tigers against the St. Louis Browns during the 1937 season.

Dave Trembley signed 1- year extension as permanent manager yesterday.....

This thread should be called "30-3? Holy Shit!"

Also last night; Brandon Webb's run at the scoreless innings streak was over in the 1st inning - still nearly two complete game shutouts shy of Hershiser's record.

Milwaukee got a runner on 3rd with one out ... so Arizona opts to play the infield in with Prince at bat in order to try and cut down the run. Didn't work obviously, but I question the strategy of doing so even if it had.

The Snakes wound up winning the game with Webb giving up 2 runs over 7 and getting the win.

If that record is so important to you, why not go for the doubleplay with a big chunky guy up? Heck, pull the leftfielder into the infield.

Letterman on the 30-3 Tex-Balt game:

- Last time I saw 30 on a scoreboard it was at a Knicks game

- Worst mauling in sports NOT involving Michael Vick

- Baltimore was actually ahead 3-0 but then made the mistake of putting up the 'Mission Accomplished' sign
