Van Buren... fascinating guy.

Hey a one time Spring Training Met!

My question, how in the heck is he sucking his gut in for that shot!

Then again, he did perform as his emo alter ego Chris Gaines on Saturday Night Live and he was supposed to be one slim fellow.

Jackson, not John F. Kennedy, should be remembered as the great Irish-American story among US presidents. Scots-Irish sadly don't count, but everything else about his biography quintessentially qualifies him.

I remember reading a great article about that, maybe in the Irish Echo.

Is it just me or does this portrait of Andrew Jackson bare a resemblance to Roger Daltrey?

I'm not claiming Jackson was a moral paragon, and I hope nobody who found Kennedy's story notable would make the same claim about him.

More importantly, I'm just claiming there is a lot in common with themes of the broad Irish-American story in Jackson's personal story, tellingly so, not that Jackson was necessarily better man.

But Kennedy was not an Indian- hating, slave-owning SOB.

On the other hand, the Kennedys' hands are not exactly clean either. I'd say it's a draw.

Not surprising considering that Jackson, like Daltrey, was also in a rock band

Oh wait ... that's the other Andrew Jackson look-alike Peter Gammons!

John Quincy Adams was the first president who was related to a prior president (his father, John Adams). Who were the others?

Posted

John Quincy Adams, the first son of a former POTUS to be elected President. There would not be another untill George W. Bush in 2000.

Interestingly enough, both Adams are the only one-termers in a stretch from Washington to Jackson of 5 two-termers in 7 Presidents. After Jackson though, Lincoln would be the next two-termer.

The Adamses also hold the distinction of being the only two presidents who are descendents ancestors of Todd Zeile.
