Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Castro's got a mild arthritic back. Doesn't sound serious but I do believe it cost him 75% of last year.Alomar Junior is the best hitter we got out there right now, but Omar sez he might also go looking for Crash Davis.Recently signed veteran Shawn Wooten put up a decent OBP at AAA earlier this year (for another org.) and is kickin in Bingo style right now with 31-year-old Robinson Cancel (257/294/381).Mike Nickeas despite a cuteypie Wifey has struggled at Class A (211/278/280); so has Rafael Arroyo (200/333/267).I think it would be kool, just for kicks, to go way down and call up Teddy Dziuba or LH-hitting Sean McCraw (272/427/377 at Savannah).I'm kind of hoping they trade for some new dude.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Todd Pratt is available I think.....he's not on any big league team...
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I don't know who you're going to get through waivers at this point.Mike Piazza, anyone?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I suppose we could try kidnapping;- we could kidnap Jesus Flores back from Washington- we could kidnap Javier Valentin and convince the league that it's Jose back from the DL- we could kidnap Mark Teixeira and trade him for Jason Saltalamacchia- we could kidnap mama Molina and see if she's got any other kids to ransomOr we could pre-emptively trade for Ronny Paulino since [media-cliche]everyone knows Omar has an obsession with him[/media-cliche].A list of catchers currently hauling down ML paychecks:http://www.hardballtimes.com/thtstats/main/index.php?view=basic_batting&linesToDisplay=50&qual_filter=ignore&season_filter[0]=2007&league_filter[0]=All&pos_filter[0]=2&Submit=Submit&orderBy=pa&direction=DESC&page=1
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 We've got a line open to Mineesota. Maybe they'd be interested in parting with Mike Redmond for future considerations.I'd be curious about giving this a day or two to see where we're at.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I'm sticking with Redmond.Omar Minaya, meanwhile, is cooperating with Dickshot's movement to turn "Crash Davis" into a nominial synonym for "journeyman catcher."Minaya said because the team has a travel day today, he does not have to get a third catcher ready to meet the team in Pittsburgh. He said the Mets have Sandy Alomar Jr. in the minors, and that "there's always a Crash Davis out there. If you have your No. 1 guy go down and the No. 2 guy is day-to-day, it's not how you had it planned."
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I think Dickshot was following Omar's lead since JD indirectly quotes OM in the first post.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Si. Read his comment this morning, know what I'm sayin'
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Well, that's a little more reading comprehensin than I can handle, apparently.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 We should open a book on who "Crash Davis" will be......not in the least surprised that Omar would know Bull Durham.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Don't we have Sandy ALomar Jr. in N'arlins for just such an occasion?
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I do hope we've got some young catchers in the minors waiting in the wings - Dookie's not getting any younger.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 I'm surprised at how reluctant they seem to be to go with Alomar.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 Well at this point (unless there's bad news about Castro that I haven't heard about) they don't need to go with anyone yet.And if you're going to bring up a guy to essentially sit there in case of emergency it makes sense to bring up the better catch-n-throw guy in DiFelice.Depending on how things go with Ramon we might see Alomar up in addition to DiFelice and see Newhan increase his already formidable frequent flyer miles.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2007 Posted August 13, 2007 That's what I meant. It sounded like Omar was saying that they might go outside the organization if Castro has to go on the DL, rather than promote Alomar.
