Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Both were sent back to NY a day early to get checked on.- Valentin to get his knee that he seemed to tweak on Saturday checked out.- Meanwhile Ducky complained about "discomfort in his shoulder" which could be anything from nothing to long-term. The immediate problem is that he's scheduled to go Monday. If not him it would still be Pelfrey's regular day on account of the day off last Thursday, but after that things would get messy. Jorge Sosa is pitching best in N'awlins but he also pitched on Sunday while Humber & CH Park have been up & down. Obviously calling up any of them would only happen if it becomes a DL situation.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Sounds like Valentin's going to the DL for sure. He's apparaently considering surgery but first wants to try rehab so the upside is a month for him.The Zeffs pulled Ruben Gotay from the lineup yesterday. If his spring training assignment holds he'd be the 33rd No. 6 in team history, yet another record. And as a bonus become a Uni Swap for Jeff Keppinger.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 From Newsday...]If Valentin is placed on the disabled list, the Mets are likely to call up infielder Anderson Hernandez, who is batting .208 with eight errors in 24 games for New Orleans. Ruben Gotay is another possibility, but he's not on the 40-man roster, which is a strike against him.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Ru-BEN! (clap clap)Go-TAY! (clap clap)
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Yeah, as I mentioned in another thread, the 40 shouldn't be a problem, as the Mets have a handful of long-term injured guys on the 15-day --- Martinez, Padilla, Sanchez, Williams --- disabled list that can be transferred to the 60-day.In fact, I think there's room even counting the injurinos.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Gotay's had a solid start at .256 / .367 / .439 // .806. I've also never seen a shot of him without a huge smile.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 If A Hernandez can't hit and now it looks like he can't catch the ball then it must be Gotay.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 The NY Post this morning said:-According to Valentin's agent, 'It's nothing serious and that Jose is day-to-day. Where you get your DL info Dickshot?-Depending on what they find re: El Duque, he could still possibly start tonight. If not it looks like Park would be the choice (he of the 7.29 era)
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Yeah how funny is that?Post goes to fitty cents as of today and the News responds by dropping its price. I love it.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 If you can believe this crap, when I lived in yorktown the Post was 75c,course I never bought the damn rag.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Just read both. I don't ever remember reading such conflicting reports. One has the best case scenario at a month, with surgery likely...ony being delayed for contract reasons. The other has him day-to-day.Of course, the agent might be spewing crap just to make sure his client gets the minimum number of AB's so his option kicks in.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Yeah - The Times had a 'too early to comment' quote on Valentin from Omar and then the Post quotes his agent saying he was D2D.I took the agent comment with a grain of salt when I initially read it.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Metsblog has Ducky to the DL with bursitis and Chan Ho getting tonight's start.
Guest iramets Guests Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 It's a put up or shut up typa start, or series of starts, then. The Mets shoulda slotted you into the rotation out of ST, Chan Ho? Okay, show us we were wrong.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I heard that on FAN as well. It's gonna come out that El Duque is in fact 48 or 49 years old.I mean - arthritis and bursitis? What's next - angina?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 ]Associated PressNEW YORK -- Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez was scratched from Monday night's start against Florida and placed on the disabled list with bursitis in his right shoulder.Hernandez was replaced by Chan Ho Park, who was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans.El Duque, 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA in five starts, told the Mets on Sunday in Washington that he felt pain in the shoulder and was sent to New York to see a doctor.Park was 3-1 with a 7.29 ERA in four starts with the Zephyrs, allowing 26 hits in 21 innings -- including six homers.Copyright 2007 by The Associated Press
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Any word on timetable? Bursitis?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 ]Whether you're at work or at play, if you overuse or repetitively stress the areas around your body's joints, you may eventually develop a painful inflammation called bursitis. You have more than 150 bursae in your body. These small, fluid-filled sacs lubricate and cushion pressure points between your bones and the tendons and muscles near your joints. They help your joints move with ease. Bursitis occurs when a bursa becomes inflamed. When inflammation occurs, movement or pressure is painful.Bursitis often affects the areas around the joints in your shoulders, elbows or hips. But you can also have bursitis by your knee, heel and even in the base of your big toe. Bursitis pain usually goes away within a week or so with proper treatment, but recurrent flare-ups of bursitis are common and can be frustrating.http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bursitis/DS00032

I didn't know I had any of those things! It sounds like the main reason Park would get this start is because of his current position in the New Orleans rotation. If he pitches and bombs tonight, they may well realign things so that Sosa can start next time around.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Adam Rubin's blog also reports that Gotay is coming up too, although it's not yet officially announced.

Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 I'm certain Gotay becomes a pinch ruunner and emergency defensive replacement for Easley. We can ill afford the O to get much weaker. Bad starts by LoDuca, Wright, and Delgado are killing us.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Wait a minute. Formerly good ML pitcher making a comeback after some disappointing years? Four letters in his name? Mets bring him up to replace someone on the DL?This year, it's Park Time!Ugh.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 Spring was not too kindly to you Chan, the bats one step ahead, and your stuff not worth the chance.Between the established vets and young turks, there was no gift for you, of Met pin-strip-ed pants. Now Chan Ho Park is starting out at Shea, all the Marlins batters lick their chops.Someone get the pen up by the fourth.'cause I don't think that I can take it,and I don't think he can fake it,and we just might need to have him start again. Oh noooooooo ... Ohhh nooooooooooo!

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 (edited) I don't like how these reports don't have a timetable accompanying them.On Edit: According to the News, it's a partial teal of the ACL.http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2007/04/30/2007-04-30_el_duque_goes_on_dl_replaced_by_park.html Edited April 30, 2007 by Guest
