Chuck James is the dork that broke his hand jumping off a roof, right?

Good start so far, 1-nil, bases loaded in the bottom of the first as I type:

Us:
Reyes - SS
Wright - 3B (first app. this year batting 2nd)
Beltran - CF
Delgado - 1B
PeeHands - LF
Castro - C
Green - RF
Easley - 2B
Ollie - P

Them:
Kelly Johnson - 2B
Renteria - SS
Lawrence Jones - 3B
Andruw - CF
Frenchy - RF
McCann - C
Diaz - LF
Craig Wilson - 1B
James - P

Perez sounded sharp on my radio, K'ing two in the top of the first.

7 pitch 1-2-3 inning for Perez in the 2nd.

I wish Ollie could pitch every game like he's facing the Braves.

Reyes steals,Dwright promptly fans.

For a guy coming off a 26-game hit streak, he looks pretty lost up there.

Wright K's to end the second, stranding Reyes in scoring position.

I was against this whole #2 thing for Wright, but especially when he's been scuffling at the plate.

Perez is dealing!

I heard Willie says his swing is "looping". I don't know what the hell is going on, but last year he smashed line drives to all fields and this year we're seeing more soft singles and lazy fly balls.

2006 Post-AS, 243 AB, 6 HR, .844 OPS
2006 Playoffs, 37 AB, 0 HR, .688 OPS
2007 Spring Training, 63 AB, 1 HR, ??? OPS
2007 Regular Season, 60 AB, 0 HR, .766 OPS

Lock him in the film room NOW!!!

Middle of the fifth, Seaver's K record starting to look in danger.

7 k and 0 BB.

Who are you, sir, and what have you done with Oliver Perez?

Gone Daddy Gone again. Castro's a homer shy of last year's output already.

I think the Mets need to somehow convince opposing teams to dress as the Braves whenever Perez pitches.

Nice job of pitching by Perez to limit the damage in the 6th. That could have easily turned into an ugly inning.

Easley now outhomering Wright and Delgado.

Jose Reyes pretty much makes all the crappy years of Mets baseball I've seen seem worth it.

Joe Smith with a HUGE strikeout of Andruw with the bases loadeda nd 2 outs.

Mets win 7-2...TCB plays at the end.

Mets have the same record that they started out with last year through 16 games: 11-5.

Nicely done all around.

Smith may achieve the rare feat of getting hisself some beer despite facing only one batter. It's tough to label an AB w/a 4-run lead a "turning point" but a bad result there could have become a turning point the other way. It pretty much stifled their last best hope.

Still early obviously, but we're getting glimpses of the Castro we saw two years back when I (and others) was touting him as a good candidate for something closer to 1/3 of the catcher starts in '06 as opposed to the more traditional 80/20 splits that many starter/backup duos use. He then started slowly and got hurt while Dookie was having better than expected season so the whole point became moot.
But now this is something worth watching as it unfolds.

The Omen: excellent.

Castro: worth not ignoring.

The pen: again.

Not much to add, given that my seats were of the type that I couldn't tell that they were actually wearing the pinstripes today (first time this year). Of course, it was with the black hats. WTF?

Lots of Braves fans there today. Annoying Braves fans. Also way too much Yankee gear. I do like that fans at Shea seem to be getting much more intolerant (and not just "Yankees suck" chants either) of the morons wearing their Yankee stuff to random Mets games.

Endy Chavez got a loud ovation for coming in as a defensive replacement. Even going back to opening day, he's been getting ovations

Beltran and Reyes have a new home run dance. Revese low-five, triple-tap high five and then a salute. Not bad but the Delgado dance is still the best.

Carlos Delgado was seriously cracking up at Jose Reyes' Spanish lessons bit that plays on the Diamondvision between innings.

Some sponsor is showing a poll each game about players that they are encouraging fans to text-message their answers to. Problem is, it's really, really stupid questions. Example: What is Moises Alou's favorite ice cream flavor? A. Chocolate B. Vanilla C. Strawberry.

Today's question? "What is Billy Wagner's favorite animal?" Alpaca was not a choice. (Turns out he favors Cows).

Sellout crowd this afternoon. Nice.

David Wright's got a new home run dance also, I imagine.
