Mets, 1 to 700

Purpose:
Name and number the Mets in ascending order to 700+, one at a time.

Rules:
Mets are numbered by their *appearance in games* not their appearance on a roster or whatever. Guys debuting in the same game would be listed by the order in which they'd be announced, IOW, by batting order.

List the guy, his number, and the date he debuted in your post. It might look cool if you copied the list until your guy then boldfaced him.

I will start:
1. Richie Ashburn (April 11, 1962)

Elster88 - "IMHO, rogers should not be allowed to post in this thread."

Well, Jeter and A-Rod have never been Mets anyway.

*pause*

Are we to assume that JD will referee because he's already done some
legwork? Or, should we just jump into retrosheet data and build and argue?

Yancy could run an sql statement and produce the list hisself.

Yeah, I'm not gonna make a 700-row, 10-column chart.

I mean I like it, I just don;t wanna do it on the board

I just like notable debuts.

you could just keep a master list updated every 50-100 guys or so, if the whole list got copied every post things would go nuts

And the last, shall be first! 18 years and on the top of many Met hitting categories, well out of sheer atrition of course.

Here's a printable 1962 page if anyone is interested.

If we find anything needs to be edited, lmk.

Don't we need a date for Sammy Drake?

I'm betting that we'll turn up some useful, heretofore-undiscovered bit of Met trivia, if we do this project very carefully.
