Tony Piazza?
Pedro E Martinez?
where are all the real prospects? starting off in big-boy camp even if they are destined to spend the season at low-A?

Zac Clements?

Is the knuckleball experiment over?

I guess that means that just signed 17 year old catching prospect Tony Pena Jr. is in the major league camp.

Yes.
That's when you hear them distinguish between players who have, or have not, "been invited to ML camp"
Those minor league guys will work out on the outer fields and not have much contact with the reg team. And, one by one, the cut-ees will join them.

What's with the asterisks?

My guess:

* bats lefthanded
# switch hitter

Yup. Except for the pitchers, where * means that he throws lefthanded.

Clements may be being held out for a short-season league. Though you figure such animals (minor-league vets stuck in short-season ball) still report to minor-league camp, before ending up in the limbo of extended spring training.

the lack of 2b and Catcher prospects is worrisome, given our current situation at those positions on the major league level.

I'll be interested in seeing what levels first baseman Abreu, Evans, Harper (I hope he's healthy again) and Carp start at.

And, are they sending out an APB for Australian catching prospect Patrick Maat? He was signed last year, then allowed to stay home to finish high school.

Given Jose Reyes' situation, I think the shortstop prospects can be considered secondbase prospects.

Obviously, our top catching prospects --- Pea and maybe Maat --- are far away (haven't taken a professional cut), but that changes if they can reclaim Jesus Flores from Pittsburgh.

Else, it's the free agent market.

I thought Flores went to Washington, not Pittsbugh. And where the F is Zac Clements?

Trying to get into the country using Hideo Nomo's visa?

Right, Washington.

I'm just thinking that Lo Duca's successor is going to be one of them damn Molinas.

My early predictions on first base is:

New Orleans - Abreu
Bing - Carp
St Lucie - Evans
Savannah - Wabick

Harper will probably DH at Bing to start before getting bumped to Orleans.

And clearly the absence of Zac Clements.

How about Chase Lambin --- the favorite of many fans' dream of secondbase productivity in spring 2006, after hitting 24 homers in just 393 at-bats between Bingo and Norfolk in 2005. In spring 2007, he's not even in big-league camp after slumping his way back to Bingo in 2006.

The French word "lambin," by the way, translates to English as "slowpoke." Yikes.

="Frayed Knot"]The only thing surprising about this thread is that it doesn't yet have an anti Corey Ragsdale screed from MFS'62

FK, it pains me to disappoint you on your birthday (Happy Birthday, BTW). I sense how much you have been looking forward to that. But, like when The Sporting News announced that it would no longer be printing box scores in its print edition, it has run its course. The topic was discussed as nauseum the past two years, and all that can be said was said.

I know this must be massive trauma for you, but we must move on. Have a drink on me tonight.

Regards, and thanks for remembering.

PS- Edgy, my name translates into "lead mountain". If you've ever seen me run, you would realize how appropriate that is.
