These aren't the usually longer, fan-written blogs, but rather the daily blogs popping up from the beat guys which often have little nuggets in them that are more interesting - during ST especially - than the generic story-du-jour that seems to read the same from every source.

WFAN - Ed Colman

NY Daily News - Adam Rubin

Newsday - Dave Lennon

New York Post - Kevin Kernan

Lennon coinfirmed my suspicions that Schoeneweis would be the Mets' first No. 60

Adam Rubin says different:

Speaking of numbers, here are the newcomers: Damion Easley (3), Ben Johnson (4), Newhan (17), Moises Alou (18), Ruben Sierra (19), Jorge Sosa (29), Aaron Sele (35), Scott Schoeneweis (36), Adkins (39), Ambiorix Burgos (40), Jason Vargas (43), Chan Ho Park (61)

Among the youngsters: Fernando Martinez (62), Mike Carp (64), Joe Smith (70), Francisco Pena (76) and Kevin Mulvey (78).

Yeah, but that's just based on what they were issued not what they will be wearing.

Lennon:

...as for the No. 60, he's been stuck with it ever since his rookie year with the Angels in 1999. The Mets tried to finally correct the injustice this spring -- issuing him No. 36 -- but Schoeneweis chose instead to stay with his old jersey.

"My first five minutes as a Met, I was high maintenance," Schoeneweis joked.

Yet Chan Ho Park is just handed 61.

I'd be glad to wear 36. It was Jerry Koosman's old number, and it was the street address of the house I grew up in on Long Island.

I'm trying to remember if my eight-year-old self liked Jerry Koosman any extra because he wore my house number on his back. I think maybe I did.

Ironically, it's an excellent abuse of reality
