y'know, one of these days, somebody's gonna post a "[free agent super star] signs" thread that actually has news of [free agent super star] signing an actual contract with an actual major league baseball team, and we're all gonna be thinking that its just some silly thread with pictures and stuff, and nobody's gonna bother opening it, and it'll get no replies, and you'll just be sitting there at your computer thinking "gosh, doesn't anybody care?" and "doesn't anybody like me anymore?" and you wonder why nobody responds to your thread, and this right here will be why.

This winter has already sucked. Even if we sign Zito, it will mean we have not upgraded LF, 2B, the bullpen or the rotation (as it was Opening Day 2006).

Good point. I'm used to seeing the Mets get better over the winter, or, at least, thinking that they've gotten better. But I'm not seeing it this year; it looks like 2007 will be a step backwards, and that's no fun, especially for a team with the resources that the Mets have.

Getting Zito would brighten my outlook, but you're right, left field and second base are disappointing.

I'm hopeful that Burgos really turns into something, that Ben Johnson was a shrewd acquisition and that the bench is stronger. Guys like Pelfrey and Humber and ... Bobby Parnell only get better over the offseason. Let's just see what Alou does but I think he's the right kind of hitter for the team.
