The Mets have never had a guy wearing uniform No. 9 named to hit in the 9th spot in the batting order in a starting lineup.

But... give me the Nos. 1 thru 8 who spent the most games in the starting lineup slot matching their uni No. And for fun, guess the # of games.

Gluck.

2 for Elster? Guessing the number of games doesn't sound like fun
but rather a wrench. How many Mets wore 2??? I'm just sayin, before
I cheat and go you know where.

Six is such an star-crossed number, outside of Wally Backman. I was going to guess Daryl Boston, but I'm going to switch to his successor, Joe Orsulak.

I'll say 79 games.

3 for Buddy Harrelson?

What kind of nut would bat Harrelson third?

I'll say Richie Hebner: 27 games.

Staub 4?

In part because Wright was already selected, I'll toss Steve Henderson in as number 5. I guess he batted there, oh, 143 times.

I'm certain Mike Piazza batted 31st more than any other Met.

Elster spent the majority of his Metly career as 21.

2 = Sasser? Can't be.

1. Mookie (SK)
2.
3. Hebner (good call, edc)

]What kind of nut would bat Harrelson third?

Can you believe though that in 1,300+ games, he never batted third even once?
4. Staub (YSG)
5. Wright (lubitul)
6.
7.
8.

Still need 2, 6, 7, 8 (all prior guesses wrong)

still wrong ... though had Boston not spent one season wearing 7, it'd be right.

One more guess before bed, which I'm sure is wrong because I think he only dipped down to 7th in the order in the late 80's....the Kid for 8.

Carter wrong. He had only 1 game in 8.
