Guest cooby Guests Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Na-uh, I just feel bad that the poor guy has nobody to remember him. Timmy.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Maybe one of us could post a fond rememberance about Tom Burgess and his love of egg salad.
Guest cooby Guests Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Is this him? Because it says Tim Burgess, which opens a whole new can of worms. Or egg salad.I googled him to see if I remembered him after all, but alas, no.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I think that is him Cooby, here's what I found...this is him because it came with a bio...an older Tom...]44 years of professional baseball experience - as a player and a coach Former big league player with the St. Louis Cardinals(teammate of Stan Musial) Big League Manager with the New York Mets Hitting coordinator with the Kansas City Royals from 1987 to 1996.Worked with greats as George Brett and Jeff ConinePresent coach with the Canadian National Team Inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame - 1992 Scout for the Seattle Mariners
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I'd say that's definitely the same guy. Mos' def'.But maybe they're both the wrong guy, because your source claims he managed the Mets. It'd be one big day in UMDB history if we confirmed that not only did Burgess coach for the team without us knowing, but he managed as well.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Burgess is becoming intriqing....we need to invite him here.

I don't know the exact years, however, so haven't entered them for him. I'll have to go through the yearbooks to find out when (and if) he was an actual coach.I think the timeframe would be around 1975.Hmmm, I've seen him listed in those press guides in the Minor League staff though as the roving hitting guy.BTW, MTBN does have him in the All-Time Coaches & Managers wearing #50 from 75-77, as well as #44 in 1975 (must have been his uni as a Cub?)One of these days I'm going to post my year-by-year listing of all Met ML staffers, coaches, scouts, ect...Also I believe he did rate photographs in the Yearbook with the rest of the staff

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I saw this article yesterday about Acta, and Id like to share it or link it but now I cant find the thing.I saw it yesterday but it was first posted soon after the Lidle accident.Turned out that the afternoon of game one (which was rained out, ayk), Manny got a call from his landlord telling him the building he lived in was hit by a plane. At this point, no one knew who the pilot or passenger was, or whose plane it was, for that matter. Most talk was about the possibility of terrorists. The article was about how things unfolded as the afternoon progressed-finding out the plane was owned by Lidle,...and then that he was in it.It was a very sobering piece.Comparing how baseball is just a little game we play compared to the harsh reality of what occured that afternoon.Had some really interesting facts that I wasnt aware of.A Mets team doctor has offices right across the street from the building.Izzy Isringhausen lived there when he played for the Mets.Acta returned there shortly after the accident and promptly turned in his keys and moved out. Said he was planning to move out anyway. It was a very good article. Hope I find it, cuz this post does not do it justice.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 You want to be a bullpen catcher for the Mets? Only polysyllabic Italian-Americans need apply.
