Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Lee Mazzilli ends up winning the day.Sorry, Gus.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 For the first time ever, Hubie Brooks was the most popular UMDB daily lookup. On the UMDB popularity index, he had been the 13th highest ranking player who had never previously won a daily title.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Strange. I was doing some Hubie Brooks research about a week ago, but I guess not enough to boost him all by myself.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Is Joe Quesada chasing them there?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 That could be. There may have been a few people who read that article and said, "Who the hell is Hubie Brooks?"
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 Some interesting Jerry Grote stuff has been posted recently.
Guest cooby Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 That's a good story. I guess we all had high hopes that year.I forgot about DJ Dozier, he wasn't a local guy but around here we were excited for him because he played football for Penn State and then played for the Williamsport Bills, who were then affiliated with the NY Mets. I guess I was even more excited about him than the Vikings/Mets fan guy.We drove up to Bellefonte High School to get his autograph on his card; I am sure my daughter still has it somewhere. He's a minister now, I believe. Sad about his dual careers, but at least he's not selling carsPS, I saw DJ Dozier while scrolling down...
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 That "The Ghost of Bad Met Trades Past" poster sounds like a great contributor.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 22, 2006 Posted December 22, 2006 "Ghost" makes Shari look like a ray of sunshine, doesn't he/she?

Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 27, 2006 Posted December 27, 2006 Our friends at Faith and Fear are looking to propel Roy McMillan to his first-ever daily victory. His hit count for today isn't huge, but nobody's running away with it today, and Roy is currently on top.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I had no idea Roy was in the running until JD spurred me to look up Mark Bradley, and am thus weirdly gratified that the Gerald Ford of Mets managers hung on. Huzzah for the interim skippers of the world!Never underestimate the power of warped sensibilities on a slow Mets news day.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 28, 2006 Posted December 28, 2006 I think I saw a story on CNN this morning that referred to Gerald Ford as the "Roy McMillan of U.S. Presidents."Or maybe I was hallucinating again. I should stay away from eating Frosted Mushroom Pop-Tarts for breakfast.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Not surprisingly, New Year's Day tends to be Danny Frisella Day.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 I don't know where the Wifey Watch Thread is at this point, but Pam Frisella is a Council Woman (and Vice Mayor!) in Foster City, CA.Pam Frisella, Vice MayorTerm Expires November 2009 http://www.fostercity.org/city_hall/council/images/Frisella_for_bio_(2).jpgOn November 5, 2005 Pam Frisella took office and will serve a four year term on the City Council. Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Brand new UMDB feature debuts today.Read the announcement, give it a try, and let me know what you think:http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/index.php
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Ooh, that 6.75 relief ERA of Seaver's is fugly.Really, great job.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 That relief appearance in April of 1969 is a strange one. From Retrosheet:]CUBS 9TH: Kessinger walked; Beckert grounded out (firstunassisted) [Kessinger to second]; Williams reached on an errorby Boswell [Kessinger to third]; Santo reached on an error byCollins [Kessinger scored (unearned), Williams to third, Santoout at second (first to right to second)]; Banks singled toright [Williams scored (unearned)]; Hundley homered (unearned)[banks scored (unearned)]; Spangler walked; SEAVER REPLACEDKOONCE (PITCHING); Phillips walked [spangler to second]; Reganwas called out on strikes; 4 R (0 ER), 2 H, 2 E, 2 LOB. Cubs 8,Mets 6.It was the first game of a doubleheader at Shea. Seaver had started and pitched 7 innings two days earlier. Strange that he came into the game after the Cubs had scored four runs in the ninth to take a two-run lead. You'd never see that today.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I ran a list of three-whiff games by Dave Kingman -- neat.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Rusty's last homer was a pinch three-run jobbie off of Jeff Reardon.. But Orosco and McDowell coughed up the lead he gave them.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 GREAT new feature! Two additional requests: a dropdown with "as a Met"/"against the Mets", and the addition of "all postseason" as an option in the regular season/postseason dropdown.Stunning work, Yance.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Both good ideas, Seawolf, and I'll put them on my to-do list. The next step will be to extend this search feature to opposing players. (I can probably do it with just a few lines of code.) It will make it easier, for example, to find all multi-home run games that Billy Williams had against the Mets.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Break the transactions down by year. But before any of that, the Mug Shots page is broken.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 The mug shots page is fixed. (I wonder how long it was broken?) Thanks for pointing it out.I'm not sure about breaking transactions down by year. That's already been done on pages like this one:http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/metannual.php?ThisYear=2006&tabno=5I think there are some who like seeing the transactions all on one big page. (Admittedly, though, it's a very big page.) I don't think I'll be putting that one on the to-do list.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Excellent point. Sorry. I guess that's not where the drop-down needs to be.The real drop-down menus I want, I guess, are on the Birthplaces page, and, especially, the Post-Season games page.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Plus I want a feature on each living player's page where I can e-mail them directly and invite them over for dinner and a rousing game of Boggle.

Maybe I'll get to that before Opening Day. I hadn't thought about it for the birthplaces page, but that's not a bad idea. I'll put that on the list, too.="seawolf17"]Plus I want a feature on each living player's page where I can e-mail them directly and invite them over for dinner and a rousing game of Boggle. That's in the works, but, unfortunately, only for the dead players. The living ones are too busy playing golf to get involved with Boggle. Sorry.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 Good. I look forward to kicking Don Rowe's ghost's ass.
