SNY is reporting that Pedro will have [u:66975265b3]rotator cuff surgery[/u:66975265b3] next week.
Recovery time ... about 8 months (that's late May by my calendar).

While they've got the hood open, might be a good time to check the oil and change the plugs as well.

Well that's that,I wonder if the Mets defered too much to Pedro in this, maybe they should have just shut him down earlier in the season...I dunno..

There was a discussion about Pedro at Shea during some game this year in which one of the guys sitting near me said "they should just activate him after the all-star break each year."

Little did he know.

I wonder if we might eventually see something on the order of Mr. Heilman and Mr. Martinez switching roles.

I doubt that Pedro would go for that.

Rotator cuff? Late May?

Good grief.

It's looking more and more like Orlando Hernandez might be returning next year.

I'd still let Trachsel walk, though. I think.

Dizzy Dean redux.
He altered his throwing motion because of a foot injury and that resulted in injuring his arm.

At least surgery is more advanced these days and he will fully recover.
I hope.

Rotator cuff is so 80s. Isn't it?

So Craig Swan.

Pedro should have heeded Swannie's warning and rolfed more.

Ron on SNY...." this is an 8 to 12 month process depending on the player, and Pedro is an older player.....".....

I don't know if we will see Pedro next season....I feel bad for the guy.

Easy come, easy go.

As the Moleman said, we'll take it from here. I like that attitude.

i'm not worried. betwen humber, pefrey, perez, maine, soler, bannister, williams, somebody will fill the void.

Omar's bound to sign somebody this winter. Zito or Schmidt, whichever one he's able to get.

And I wouldn't rule out his signing both of them.

Matsuzaka Daisuke.

I'd take him over Zito or Schmidt any day.

Yes, he's more of a question mark, but IMO he's got more upside. If we can also get Zito, great, but I'm cool with a rotation of:

Glavine, Matsuzaka, Maine, Humber, Pelfrey/Perez/Bannister

And if Duaner comes back next year, we've got Heilman as an option too.

FWIW, I'm in favor of giving that bag of money to Zito.

Not that it's a surprise to you guys. But I've been rooting for Zito for over five years now, so on a personal level I'd love to have him on the Mets.

It's great to have a lot of talented young pitchers (Pelfrey, Humber, Bannister, Perez, Soler, and Williams)* to possibly fill the rotation next season, but I still think that it is imperative theat the Mets sign a proven frontline starter for the front of the rotation next season. Zito or Schmidt are probably the best options available this winter. We should hopefully have an edge in recruiting Zito, since he enjoyed his greatest success under the tutelage of Rick Peterson. Their time together should be an asset this winter.

*I didn't include John Maine in the list of young hopefuls, because at this point he has, at least in my mind, has a spot in next season's rotation unless he blows it by not pitching well next spring.

Can anyone dig up articles relating to getting insurance on that shoulder? If the 90% story were accurate, that would be troublesome to insure.

That is late May by my calendar too, but he headlines are all screaming "after the AllStar break"...

Typical media, or more realistic?

Yah, I'm afraid so too.

Pedro makes me feel young :(

Time to tap the insurance and encourage Pedro to retire and get some of the 53 milion back.

We'll see Zito or Schmidyor both...money seems to be any object

In 3 years Pedro can sign with the Devil Rays

I believe he thinks the Mets have suddenly become the Yankees.

Sure, lets have 8 All Star regulars (including, eh 5 future HOFers) with all borderline All Star (i.e. a team's lone rep) or major league starters as the bench.

5 starting pitchers, all of whom would be #1 or #2 starters on any team and have our future HOF closer (one of the very few) to be backed up by only those with big time closing experiences.

And your payroll comes out to...

$300,000,000.00

I think that's a closer analysis than cleon deserves.

Fair, but I've heard that analysis be brought up by Yankee fans who really do think that any NY team should be constructed that way because of the high payroll amounts they have

Anything at this point is purely a guess-timate so neither is "correct".
Late May (actually 2nd week in June by the time the cutting is done next week) is merely simple math. If that's just the time he starts throwing then post-AS break is more realistic.

Throw in the fact that not every recovery is equal, nor is every rotator cuff surgery the same. (I had it on my shoulder but mine was relatively minor. In my case it's now 5 years later and I STILL can't hit 90 on the gun so I guess my recovery should still be considered ongoing.)
If we start hearing terms like "full thickness tear" after the operation then we're probably looking at longer recovery times and a good chance that a full recovery might never be seen.

Hang in there, FK. It'll happen.
