MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 the Yankees had to back into their division championship? They didn't "win" it for themselves?Just some ammunition for when you talk to MFY fans today. This was a public service announcement.Later
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I honestly didn't even know they won the AL East until I saw the paper this morning, and I could care less...fuck them.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Really happy?Nah. I'll be "really happy" when they get eliminated from the postseason. And I'll be REALLY HAPPY the year that they don't get to October.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 This "backing in" stuff is mostly nonsense. If a team really suxx down the stretch and gets in the playoffs only because other teams suck even more, then THAT'S backing in.But it's NOT if the mathematical moment of clinching comes via a persuer's loss simply due to the order and timing involved .
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I think it's nice that all five of the Mets clinchers came on the field. I think they're really defied the odds in having that happen. And I hope they do it the nice way next year, but if they clinch the 2007 NL East with a loss, so be it.

Just something to snicker at for a day, but not a true judgement of a seasonEspecially when it will be long forgotten come October
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Besides, the Mets almost had to do it that way too
Guest silverdsl Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I guess it's hard for me to view an 11-game lead in the Division as "backing it in."
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I was amused watching the champagne celebration following the loss, but I wouldn't say that it made me very happy. There's a huge gap between those two.
