Bannister looking rusty.......

1st two Phils reach on back to back singles.

Make that back to back to back as Utley singles home Rollins.

Whew--Howard just crushed one but the wind holds it in the park.

Victorino tags-
2-0 Phils

Shaky 1st inning for the rusty Bannister.

I do think Delgado should have made the play that resulted in the second hit of the game, off Victorino. Most firstbasemen would have fielded that ball.

CarlosD will just have to make up for that at the plate.

Some Phils phacts:

Phils have homered in 15 straight games against the Mets.

So far this year they are 7-9 against the Mets, and would have to sweep this weekend, their last meeting, to take the season series.

Bannister walks Lieberthal to start off the second, then settles down and gets three quick outs.

I'm cautious about proceeding without an IGT. Two runs home already.

Woodwards trying to give Cleon something to talk about.

Good thing he recovers quickly after booting the grounder by Victorino, and throws him out.

Uh? This is an IGT and you just posted in it.

Did Keith just show up in like velvet pants in the booth or was my reception
on the fritz?

The wind didnt stop Howards blast that time.
UGH.....

Why no talk about Howard for MVP?

Theres some.
Most think the Phils would have to make the post season for it to be taken serious.

Four more dingers and he passes Mike Schmidt and becomes the Phils single season all time home run leader.

It would be typical that the Mets would make the post season and have a bonifide MVP candidate, and a Phils player ends up snaggin it.
That wouldnt surprise me at all.
Im conditioned that way thru yrs of being a Met fan.

I was 9 at the time, did Schmidt really that THAT big of a year that it didn't matter how far in back the Phils were the writers were going to give him the award? Was it an anti-NY thing or something goofy like the 1998 MFYankees claim they had "25 MVPs" so no Met really stood out?

Howard has a shot at MVP because there will likely be split votes for players
on teams, especially the Mets if things continue hot through September.

I honestly dont know what their thinking was.
Schmidt did have a monster year, but I didnt think he deserved it.
But of course I wanted a Met to get it.
And its true that the Mets functioned better as a team.
Ray Knight wasnt gonna win an MVP, but he may have been our MVP that season. Carter had a decent season- some nice numbers.

I havent hated too many players in all my years watching baseball.
I grew to hat Michael Jack Schmidt.

I'm sick of seeing the Phillies....go Mets.

That's one of the arguments against the creation of these "regionalized" divisions that someone's always suggesting. If the Mets were in a division with the Phils, Yanks, & BoSox (an example that's often proposed) then Philly & Boston would both come into town for about 38 games per year.

Then you'd REALLY be sick of them

That's what I meant above, if things continue Beltran and Reyes will split
the votes .

Beltran with another home run and it's 4-3 Phillies.......I love you Carlos(sorry I was pissed at you before)

Nice to see ya, Ralph ... we luv ya.

I still would like to know the behind the camera story about why Ralph
only gets to join us for three innings a week and if it's to his true liking.

Whoops--im slippin:

Really nice to see Beltran homer from the right side.
