Ramon has been put on the [u:c283713726]60 Day DL[/u:c283713726] on account of the knee cleansing he just got, effectively ending his season.

I suppose - depending on the timing of things - that a return for a potential WS is possible, but that's assuming you'd want him to come in "cold".



Which all means we've got less than a week to come up with a backup catcher or commit ourselves to DiFelice (or someone else inside the org) for the post-season.

Of course he can't hit either - as anyone who saw the first half of the Yanqui season can attest - but it's better than no one at this point.
I mean Stinnett was so bad that the Yanx opted for Sal Fasano instead.

Well, Stinnett wasn't signed to bolster Norfolk's postseason chances if they even have any.

I imagine if he manages to suck only a little they'll hand him DiFelice's job; otherwise they've gotta go find Rod Barajas or Gregg Zaun, in spite of MFS62's objections.

LOL! Good, but selective, memory. You forgot that I added that I would gladly see Barajas on the Mets for the good of the team. As for Zaun, he is awful.

But Stinnett was awful, too - offensively and defensively -when he played for the Yankees earlier this year. I can just hear the Yankee fans, if and when he is added to the roster. The sneers will be led by Suzyn Waldmann, who basically rode him out of town on a rail by highlighting his every failing.

I think he has a problem playing on a "big stage". I've watched him play more them a few games against the Yankees the past few years, and I only remember him getting one hit- a single. I don't think he has the right stuff. Just my opinion.

I don't know, that seems awfully snap-shoty. I just looked through his game log for the season and his hitting vs. Boston and NY doesn't seem to be any worse than par for his course.

As for trading for him, it really wouldn't be neccesary as long as LoDuca is hurt. It would be frivolous if LoDuca stays healthy but ingenious if he suffered an unforseen injury. In other words, it's a crapshoot.

Zaun for what it's worth is a career .181 hitter versus the MFY,I just took a look through yahoo's list of catchers and the picking are very slim.

As I said, just my opinion based on personal observation. But I guess you could say its a case of limited plate appearances. If the numbers prove me wrong, so be it.
On the other hand, he is a switch hitter. That might come in handy against a tough righty if they want to give LoDuca a rest.

As for the Lecter comment (and the Conan one in the other thread), I'm apparently having an anger management problem today. Please bear with me.

He's run the full gamut of transaction types:
Drafted and signed.
Traded (several times)
Traded as part of conditional deal (twice)
Put on waivers/released. (Which means he was DFA)
Declared / signed as a free agent.

Didn't see any suspensions (drug or other reason).
And, he may be the only member of the Blue Jays who hasn't taken a swing at John Gibbons, but we can't verify that.

btw, I miscalculated a bit when saying that Castro would be unavailable until around WS time.
The 60-day DL dates back to when he was first put on the 15-Day (it doesn't start anew) meaning he'd be eligible by sometime in late Sept -- meaning we won't neccesarily need to go into the post-season with DiFelice or some other such non-hitting backup.

Of course Willie was quoted as saying that it hardly matters since he's likely to go everyday with the main guy anyway during the playoffs.
Still rather have Ramon off the bench to swing a bat in a pinch even if that's all he does.

Willie is showing some serious ineptitude again with bench management. If he's going everyday with LoDuca, it'd be nice to have a backup who can pinch-hit.

Willie was most likely making a bit of a funny by suggesting that it doesn't matter who the backup catcher will be.
I suspect he was just using the occasion to stress that he'll be going with his main guy in October -- but, of course, if the plan is to never put your backup catcher into the game, having that guy be a classic 'catch-n-throw' catcher would be essentially worthless.
