Wright gets security and a long term commitment from the Mets. He's happy and the Mets fans should be ecstatic, so it's a great deal for all involved.

The Mets have locked up a solid offensive core (Beltran, Reyes, Wright) for several years to come. The future just keeps looking better for the Mets organization.

Except that, on his own, Wright was prolly not going to make more than 500K next year so you gotta look at this stuff as an average. He's getting more now in exchange for the security he's not yet in position to demand and possibly less later on because he's giving up the right to auction himself for 2 more (or possibly 3) years.
It could be a bargain for the team in the back years (assuming normal progression) plus they know exactly what the budgeted numbers are for their two young guns for the foreseeable future.

edit -- nevermind -- found it. This'll be the first year since 1988 the Mets draw more than 3 mills. They reached that figure 12 years before the MFYs did.
