Wed 8/2
Phillies lead 8-7
Old friend Braden Looper is in for the Top of the 8th and a runner is on with no outs.

MFY win 7-2 and Boston loses 5-6

Utley is 0-4 but should get another crack at it in the game

Oh--he will.... unless the world ends, which I guess these days is certainly a possiblility.

Phils score again and 'chase' Looper, Victorino triples and Utley at the plate.

I really want Utley to keep it going.
I also really wished he played for the Mets...
Not that Im not happy with what Valentin has been giving us.
Chase is just such a throwback type of player that makes baseball so much more enjoyable to watch.

UTLEY BEATS OUT AN INFIELD SINGLE!!!!

It was an easy chopper to the pitcher between the mound and third---the pitcher takes a second to check Victorino at third, and he beats it out.

AND THE SCORING HAS BEEN CHANGED!
CHANGED TO A FIELDERS CHOICE!

That was a hit---I really thin that was a hit---no bobble, Utley beat it.

8th against Randy Flores in for Looper.

OOOOOOOOOOHHHH a Fielders Choice!

Its 11-7 now and only one out

Doesn't say what happened, but it seemed like ball went back to the mound and Flores went somewhere other than first as no out was recorded!

PiazzaFan31 isn't here for this but he'd (or she) would appreciate my Jim Ross, WWE announcer imitation:

NOT THIS WAY DAMN IT! NOT THIS WAY!

AND ITS BEEN CHANGED BACK AGAIN!
lmao--

Looks like they are gonna give him that hit.

Im curious--when you see this play lemme know what you think.

I think it was a single alright.

The pitcher did take an extra second looking back Victorino to third, but he never faltered or bobbled the ball, and Chase busted it down to 1st.

The game is on ESPN.

Ball was hit back to the pitcher, he checked the runner at third but then threw late to first. Credited with a hit, as of now.

Yeah, how was THAT an FC? What is the OS in St Louie a DiMaggio fan (or a Rose fan for the NL record)

Oh and the Phillies are laying the wood on the Cards pen. Kind of has me worried about the weekend!

Whats that about payback, even from 13 games behind...

I get Phils games locally here as part of my Comcast package.
I saw it--I do think it was a single fair and square.

It was one a those calls that could go either way tho---and it actually did there.

It wont show in the boxscore, but Victorino bought Utley that hit by catching Flores eye as the ball settled in his glove. The pitcher felt compelled to watch him back as he turned to throw, and it gave Utley the extra step it took to make it---tho he may have beat it by more than a step.
It certainly wasnt bang bang at first--he clearly beat the throw.

HIT was the proper call there. It was a CHEAP hit, but a hit none-the-less.

You're not supposed to give an error simply because the play was too slow in developing and that's really al that happened there. Pitcher checked 3rd (stupid) then just took too long to spin and throw. By the time the trow got to 1st, Utley was clearly across the bag.

At this rate, 13-8 Phils w/1out in bottom 8 and the Cards threatening for more, Utley may still get up again!

And Utley will bat again......

And he grounds one up the middle, off the shortstops glove, and is credited with his second hit of the game.

That was a wild game!

Ultimately, even though the Phillies won, they have to be exhausted. Hopefully tomorrow's game will be just as tiring for them before they travel to New York

I want Piazza back.

At what the Mets would have had to pay him under the current bargaining agreement, no.
At when the Padres are paying him, yes.
EDIT: and for the Mets to have signed him at that salary, he couldn't have joined the major league team until after May 1. They couldn't have waited that long, and had to do something.

Cleveland with an 11-run 1st inning against the Royals today, good golly.
Pronk hit his 6th grand slam of the year, tying Mattingly's single-season record.

Pronk???

EDIT: I know its Hafner, but why is that his nickname? Isn't it a candy bar sold in Cleveland? Or did they name it after his nickname?

Travis Hafner

]He is often referred to by the nickname "Pronk", which combined two nicknames "Project" and "Donkey," originally suggested by former teammate Bill Selby during spring training of 2003.
