TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Thought I'd whip this up as I was bored and I'm a nerd. The Mets have used 7 different uniform combinations this season, 5 at home and 2 on the road. There does not seem to be any ryhme or reason as to which uniform is worn on any given day. Day games, night games, different days of the week, different starting pitchers...it seems to be purely a grab bag.Records are through 7/29 vs. the Braves:Home unis:The majority favorite of the forum seems to be the traditional pin stipes with blue caps. Those unis have been worn 9 times this year: 4-5, .444Pin striped jerseys with the two tone blue and black cap have been worn 4 times: 3-1, .750The all white snowball/softball jerseys have been worn with the blue cap 13: 8-5, .615The snowballs with the two tone cap have also made 13 appearances: 5-8, .385The black home jerseys with the black caps have been worn 12 times: 9-3, .750Road unis:The all black road combo has been worn 11 times and has come in with the worst record: 3-8, .273The most worn uni is the road grey with the two tone cap. It's been worn 41 times: 29-12, .707Does anyone know what determines the combo of uniform worn on any particular day? I would say more black at home and less on the road.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Pretty sure the equipment manager makes the call every day. This is killer data! -- how'd you determine it, and, um, could you keep it up? Thanks!
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Author Posted July 29, 2006 I went back and looked at pics from each game.Like I said...I was bored...and I'm a nerd.Hard part's over, it's easy to keep track of now.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Great work Monk,I read before that Charlie Samuel really doesn't put much thought into what uniforms are worn on a given day except the black ones on hot day games.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Here are the home combinations in my order of preference:Traditional pin stipes with blue caps. The snowballs with the two tone cap.The all white snowball/softball jerseys worn with the blue capPin striped jerseys with the two tone blue and black cap.The black home jerseys with the black caps.Although I like blue caps, and I like pinstripes, I have to admit I like the way the "snowballs" and the two-tones look together.I hate the black caps. And I hate the black jerseys, especially at home. I guess I could tolerate them once in a while on the road.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Can't stand the whites. What is this, the Navy? "Faggity white uniforms."
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 i like the snow white uniforms as well as the road gray.i'd like to see the black uniform abandoned entirely, or, at least, only used as an alternative road jersey.]"Faggity white uniforms."you couldn't say that in a movie in 2006 without getting in trouble, more political correctness gone overboard. i love the movie and especially that character, it is he, and not the young tom cruise, who is the hero.edit- oh a Cruise is a cradle-robber. yes, i'm jealous.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 You're really kind of focused on the defense of homophobic remarks, aren't you?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 this is pretty kool info.I can see the black on hot sunny days. Dont know it that makes sense tho---doesnt white reflect the sun?The pinstripes/ blue cap are definately my favorite.I dont mind the alternates- but would rather see the pinstripes everytime. On the road the old grey NYs.The blacks dont really turn me off, or excite me.I own one a those--of course I own a pinstripe (Seaver 1969)I only wear it on my birthday---I sent it to the cleaners once- its yellowing.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I think the Mets should introduce a uniform that includes wearing kilts in the New York City Tartan:An unfortunate side effect is that no one will want to slide feet first.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 This could be a unique uniform combination for the Mets.Obviously it looks a lot better on her than on, say, Ramon Castro but you get the idea.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Do other US cities have an official tartan pattern?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 New York is the only one I'm aware of. I know, you're worried, that once the Mets adopt this alternate uniform, soon the Cardinals will show up in bright red St. Louis tartans and the Padres in brown & mustard San Diego tartans.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 No, I just want to pick out my next killt based on my city, or my next city based on my kilt.
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Speaking of unis, and I know you'll all just think this is just another stupid cooby comment, but has anybody else noticed that Pedro pitches better when he is wearing his long pants? Can we write and tell him?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 When has he pitched in shorts?
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Not shorts, those dumb looking knee pants
Guest cooby Guests Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I don't think any of his latest outings have lasted long enough for them to take a picture,You know, Rusty Staub pants!
