That makes sense.

But they could sign him on August 30, send him to Norfolk, recall him on September 1, and then do the Sierra/Sanchez switch.

At what point do they have to finalize the playoff roster? If Sierra sucks through September, they could pick a different player for his spot, and if he's red hot, they can use him.

I think, if I remember right, that the deadline for finalizing the roster comes after the regular season has ended. Maybe 24 hours before Game 1 starts? Or the morning of the day before, perhaps?

But the Mets could sign Sierra to a minor league deal (and put him on the 40-man) prior to 9/1 and get him on the postseason roster, right?

Right, the playoff roster isn't final until the final 24 hours before the series starts.
It's just that the crew who are eligible to be active on that roster is restricted as of Aug 31.

I think they've also tightened up a few of the loopier loopholes that existed a few years back. Steve Phillips used to put some non-descript, already-injured, single-A player on the 40-man just so he could then "replace" that guy on the playoff roster with a late addition. I don't think GMs can get away with as much of that sort of stuff as they used to.

As far as I know, as long as they had an injured player who he'd be replacing, yes.

according to the associated press our Lefty PH is going to be Ricky Ledee.

No word of whom we're bumping off the 25 man roster to have him on as of yet, but young Royce Ring, Eli Marrero & Mike DeFelice (if they think Marrero can back up LoDuca) have to be the prime candidates

Eh. Ledee isn't quite as dangerous as I'd like.

me neither. His jack of all trades in the outfield would be valuable if we didn't have Chavez and Milledge already out there, but we do so i'd like a guy who's slugged over .450 more then twice in his career.

Does picking him up of waivers in any way inhibit our ability to get another, more fearsome, LH bat?

Omar hasn't struck me as having such fears as overcommitting to underwhelming vets.

I dobut it, but I suppose it's also possible that Lastings Milledge goes back to Norfolk where he can turn his back on Ken Oberkfell.

Ricky Ledee is coming to town to give you a big 'ol LH bat.

AP beat ESPN in announcing it...and I'm not sure this is the big bopper bat many of you are looking for. He can play the outfield when Milledge starts to hiccup. He was hurt for most of the first half of the season. The dreaded groin injury.

FAN is reporting something like that too, but I was only half listening and
my ears only went up when I heard the word Eli probably being released.

Play Ledee!

Release DiFelice!

Void Floyd and Get Some Throw-Ins for Owens!!

Send Padilla to Korea!

My new project to get me an agenda-based sig-line is hitting a speedbump.
