Guest old original jb Guests Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Perhaps it would help the team pull out of the doldrums if the Mets were required to sport Rollie Fingers-style old time curly-que handlebar moustaches.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Perhaps it would fail to help the team pull out of the doldrums, but nonetheless be entertaining if the Mets were required to sport Bruce Sutter-style old time mountain-man beards.Reports, by the way, say Lima is looking decidedly less flamboyant.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I guess getting hammered every time you take the mound and eventually being sent down to Norfolk has a way of humbling a guy. Hopefully, he can give the Mets 5 reasonable innings as an emergency sub for Pedro, then back to Norfolk he goes following the All Star Break. At least his reinstatement helps the wifey watch thread.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 That's one way of putting it.You certainly don't want your hairstyle making a bigger statement than your performance.

Sutter's beard kicks ass.Reardon's beard might come in handy if you're holding up a convenience store, but Sutter's has its own post office.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 That shot above is of Reardon during a Sutter-ish phase. In career Rolaids Mountain Man points, Reardon isn't even on the charts. It's Sutter vs. Hrabosky and no others need apply.

I thought it was a Fu Manchu that puts The Goose's to shameBy the way, unlike most of these guys, Al has long since retired the facial hair
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Al eventually expanded his act to include a beard, then expanded his beard into it's own sub-culture.Eventually, he added a mulletwhich, along with the Fu and the beard, should pretty much make him the patron saint of relief pitchers.
