[Gwreck]

Thunderstorm passed through apparently. Grounds crew now removing the tarp (as of 7 EDT). Probably 15-30 minute delay in the start of the game.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

They're shooting for a 7:45 start.

[Gwreck]

Found while waiting for the rain delay: the all-time lowest sum total of uniform numbers in a Mets lineup. (August 30, 1962). Dickshot, I'll PM you the details.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Julia Stiles is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. She's a New York native and a Columbia College grad - a lifelong Mets fan.

I'll let one of you guys post the photo of her.

[Gwreck]

This was a pretty well known photo of Stiles (might take a little while to load)

[Gwreck]

Gamecast says that pitch was basically in the dirt. WTF?

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Eric Byrnes' solo homer gives the D-Backs an early 1-0 lead.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

A hit and a walk puts Snakes runners on first and second with one out.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Valentin's 2-RBI single gives the Mets a 2-1 lead

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

X-Man scores on Reyes' ground out. 3-0 Mets!

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Valentin scores on LoDuca's 2-out double.

And, as Keith says constantly, 2-out RBI's are the toughest

[Gwreck]

There's likely another rain delay coming soon.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

That time is now - the skies have just opened.

[Guest SI Metman]

rain delay almost over. Tarp is off the field, and the groundscrew is prepping it for play.

[nymr83]

lets get this one in... might have a long stretch by Oliver tonight after all this rain.

[Frayed Knot]

I've got a local weather station on my cable and the only storms they're showing are the ones going straight thru Central Queens - first one, then the other. It's like they're moving north to south over the Whitestone Bridge and sitting on top of Shea.
I haven't seen a drop.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Counsell is on second, Byrnes strikes out for the first out of the third inning.

He's well, rested, having not thrown since the marathon game last Tuesday.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Trax gets out of it - on to the bottom of the third.

[Guest Edgy DC]

Hernandez and Soler are getting along swimmingly in the dugout.

Swimmingly? I thought they came by boat or at least used a raft..

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Crap - a bloop single that should have been caught and a double give the Snakes runners at second and third with no outs in the 4th

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

A sac fly scores a run and moves Shawn Green to third with only one out.

[Guest Edgy DC]

That was a heck of a pitch to drive 300 feet for a sacrifice fly.

[Guest Edgy DC]

Ooo, crap throw by Cliff on the wet field. One-run game.

[Guest ScarletKnight41]

Now it's 4-3 on another sac fly (and a poor throw by Cliff), and Vargas doubles with 2 out

[The Big O]

Aw, crap. Knots ahoy courtesy of Eric Byrnes.

[Guest Johnny Dickshot]

BaZooka with the basepath derring-do.

Beltran can pretty much get away with murder while sluging 600+, but you just knew that wuss nonplay on the pop fly was gonna hurt.

[Guest Edgy DC]

What a hook slide by Lo Duca.

The throw beat him by 10 meters.
