When I first started paying attention to such things, Wayne Garrett's 55 homers had him in tenth place all time.

That's about the same as me remembering Ed Lynch leaving the Mets in the top ten in wins.

Wagner is now breathing down Sisk's neck and tied Jesse's best (and All Star) year (total saves that is, don't know what would be considered Jesse's best year as a Met, probably 1986) with his 31st save today

Jesse Orosco's greatest season was 1983, without a doubt.

Wagner's been racking them up recently, and is approaching a record pace.

Beltran's 36th homer ties a former club record, set by Dave Kingman in 1975 (and surpassed by Kingman's 37 in 1976).

Howard Johnson twice finished with 36 homers, and MIke Piazza did once, in 2001.

Beltran got his 36th homer last night in the 124th game of the season. The quickest Met to 36 was Todd Hundley, who hit his 36th homer in the 119th game of the 1996 season.

Hundley would get number 37 in the 127th game, number 38 in the 128th game, number 39 in game 138. His 40th homer was in the 143rd game and his 41st and final homer that year was in the 148th game.

Mike Piazza, the only other Met to hit 40 homers, got his 40th in the 161st game of the season.

Beltran's RBI total is also getting into elite territory.

He's currently at 103, just two shy of a longtime Mets record.

Rusty Staub established a single-season RBI record of 105 in 1975. It was tied by Gary Carter in 1986, but not broken until Darryl Strawberry drove in 108 in 1990.

Beltran's having a pretty good season, isn't he?

Talking about Beltran '06 vs. Gilkey '97 is certainly not gettng too far ahead of ourselves at this point.

I've been getting fewer and fewer butterflies when Wagner enters the game.

I didn't mind seeing Sisk take the field either.

Scary

1) Tom Seaver 198
2) Dwight Gooden 157
3) Jerry Koosman 140
4) Ron Darling 99
5) Sid Fernandez 98
6) Al Leiter 95
7) Jon Matlack 82
8) David Cone 81
9) Bobby Jones 74
10) Steve Trachsel 65

Seaver is in the elite of elite, arguably the best righty Post-WWII
Gooden, Koosman, Darling, Sid, Leiter, Cone and Matlack could start for many teams in their primes, and all had careers of disticntion. Fresno Jones and Trachsel are in the "Which Doesn't Belong and WHY?" category =;)

Not much to say in Saves, except Mets never had too many out right "closers" for more than just a handfull of years. I mean even Tug didn't have that long of a run as THE GUY in the pen. It took untill 1973 for McGraw to be rid of the co-closer title with Taylor and Frisella! And the next year Bob Miller actually "finished" more games! (according to Baseball-Reference.com)

Beltran now has 108 RBI, which ties another former Mets record. (Darryl Strawberry in 1990. Edgardo Alfonzo also had 108 in 1999.)

Beltran is now tied for the 7th best RBI season in Mets history. He only needs 16 more to tie Mike Piazza's 1999 club record of 124.

Beltran's 38 home runs are tied with Howard Johnson (1991) and Mike Piazza (2000) for the 5th best total in Mets history. The only players ahead of him are Darryl Strawberry, with a pair of 39's (1987 and 1988), Mike Piazza's 40 in 1999, and Todd Hundley's 41 in 1996.

Carlos may actually become the single-season Mets home run king during the upcoming week.

Jose Reyes now has 486 hits as a Met. 14 more and he'll become the 34th Met to reach 500 hits.

He also needs to score another 16 runs to become the 21st Met to cross the plate 300 times.

David Wright, who has to start hitting sooner or later, needs 9 doubles to become the 24th Met to have 100 doubles. Jose Reyes is 24 away from that total.

I haven't made a table for this, because I didn't think it'd come to it, but Steve Trachsel is on a pace for 17.45 wins, which would be the 15th winningest season in Met pitching history, and the highest Met win total since Frank Viola won 20 in 1990.
