Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Sort of under the radar, but the Mets signed Endy Chavez to a major league contract.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Omar loves the guy. He and his bother, Ender Chavez, got a lotta Gold Glove love back in the day. He was signed by the Mets, then rule 5ed from the Mets, returned from KC, then traded there. Detroit got him, then we got him back from them. Omar went to Montreall, got him from us. Now Omar's back and we got 'em again. I think that makes 5 acquisitions of EC in Omar's career. This makes sense only as a challenge to Redman for a backup OF spot, I suppose, and to gather in the Tides 06 CFer.Chavez, MLB (1420 PA): 259/299/359Redman, MLB (1322 PA): 277/312/378
Guest ABG Guests Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 They must be pretty confident the guy will make the team out of ST to give him a guaranteed deal.BeltranFloydNadyDiazRedmanChavezThat strikes me as a lot.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I can't help but think they're saving Diaz for the one big pitching trade they haven't made yet.As noted previously, Diaz would make an awfully Beane-tastic DH.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 Edgy, I posted this in the off seasons signings thread. And, I mentioned him in the Non-tendered thread as a (then) potential three (or is it now four?) time Met.I wonder if this will jump start the Beltran for Manny swap rumor threads on other boards. He (and Tike) would be insurance for a season or so, depending on how much more seasoning Lastings needs.Later
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 i have to assume that theres a trade in the works, why else would you want all these guys around? i hope Nady goes and not Diaz, i still hate the idea of the bottom 4 being Nady, Matsui, Loduca, pitcher and i really think Diaz has much more potential than Nady.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 The Mets are loading up on guys who stand out in my memory as murdering us even if they're pretty AAAA everywhere else. Endy Chavez batted .364 against us as an Expo. He and Tike are at least off the streets.

Guest sharpie Guests Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 ] i still hate the idea of the bottom 4 being Nady, Matsui, Loduca, pitcher Matsui would (and should) hit below LoDuca.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 I can't imagine both Redman and Chavez make the roster. Hopefully one of them outperforms his track record.
