Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 I think declaring yourself in favor of raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens is slightly more controversial than the stuff Wright listed. He's got a brother at Va Tech - explaining his football team of choice.

Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Official ruling: Not funny. However, upon further review, officials ruled that, as a blood descendent of the original response joke in the thread, which itself was ruled funny, the penalty was offset by a baiting violation by the straight men. Repeat first down.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 I'd invoke the rule of three. You use an unexpected punchline --- funny! You repeat it in response to a somewhat different setup --- funny! Less funny, but funny! Points for adjusting! You use it a third time --- still less funny, but funny in a new different way in that it should be appreciated how you can maintain a pattern as the setup recontextualizes it.Third time usually gets as much applause ("Good show, mate!") as laughter, and, in a way indicates closure.Fourth usage of a punchline is by then so expected and so unfunny as to subtract from the impact of the prior three. Big faux pas.

To make a short story long: My line had nothing to do with JD's use of the same joke three times. This was me being jocular b/c earlier today I made a joke about Anna Benson and the BJ Bunch and I was told (in what I think was a lighthearted way) that since the joke was obvious it wasn't funny. So I was trying to joke around here, saying "I expected JD to say that, so is it funny or not". Of course, since I never post anything clearly this actually got everyone debating whether it's funny. But I don't really need people to explain this to me. I get it, I promise.lol. Now, that does make your post funny too.JD was using variations on a theme. It wasnt that what he said surprised me.It was that he said something using only 3 words.lol.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2005 Author Posted December 15, 2005 LOL...I deleted out that post, thinking it was kind of pointless. Zvon got to it first.
