seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 No Mets; Jim Rice and Dick Allen are the biggest non-Met baseball names on my birthday list.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 I share a birthday with Dyar Miller and Toby Borland.Another way to play this game is to see which Met was born closest to your date of birth.I was born in 1963, just two days after Edwin Nuez, whose name came up around here just a few days ago.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Current Met Heath Bell.Don't know of any past Mets, because I never thougt it important enough to look up.Later
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 I share a birthday with only one Met: Ken Singleton, who also, is probably the best player in bb history with that birthdate (although you could make a case for Jack Graney, who played in the teens and 20s for the seriously, I just used a racist word when I really meant "Guardians", or maybe Freddy Garcia. The Mets born closest to my birthdate are Bill Spiers (5 days older) and Dave Lidell (5 days younger). To my knowledge the athlete born closest our birthdates is Mike Tyson (2 days).
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Former Brooklyn Dodger Steve Lembo and Hall of Famer Roger Bresnahan both died on my birthday.

Which I do too, as it happens--Stan and I are exactly the same age, but he got all the breaks.

Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 And, now that I've read this in detail, Happy Birthday Edgy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 No, thanks. That was an error. I mistakenly had two pages open. One for my day, and one for today, and included players from both days.I was born on a chill day in early spring. Frost was still on the mountain grass. The geese had begun re-arriving. Australian destroyers were attached to the US seventh fleet in Viet Nam, as Dr. Martin Luther King protested against that war, his first anti-war march. Tiddlywinks had completed it's evolution into its modern form. The Mets had just begun their spring training schedule with a young righthander from Southern California named George Feaver.Jackie Wilson and his drummer and friend Jimmie Smith were arrested in a South Carolina motel on "morals charges." They were aparrently entertaining caucasian women in some capacity.Ted Kennedy hadn't yet disgraced himself and it was still OK, if somewhat clichd for an Irish Catholic family to name their fourth child Edward and nickname him Teddy. That didn't last long.It was in this historical cauldron that I first saw the light in this fallen world.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Fine. Pass the cake along to DJ.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 On the date of my birth, the Rangers blew by the Bruins 4-1 to reach the Stanley Cup finals. In exhibition baseball, Carl Hubbell led the Giants past the Brooklyn Dodgers. Johnny Dickshot went 0-2 for the Terrymen. The Yanks lost 3-2 to the New Orleans Pelicans, despite 3 hits, including a triple, by Joe DiMaggio. Almost all the Pelicans had such long names that they were abbrevieated in the box score and I'm not quite sure who they all were, but future major leaguers included Carden Gillenwater and Pete Coscarart. During the game, the PA announcer had to ask three fans to remove their cars from a nearby railroad track so that a train could get by.Burgess Meredith and Ingrid Bergman opened on Broadway in Liliom (later to become Carousel).
