I don't think he was made the scapegoat for those deals.

That article clearly gives Duquette a pass and makes Wilpon and Goldis the scapegoats for the deal.

It certainly does, and I have to think that Duquette, as it states in the article, could not have possibly changed philosophies so quickly.

Wilpon, on the other hand, was the one who was chirping about "Meaningful Games in September" and making statements on the radio that spring like "We're not rebuilding. . .we've rebuilt."

But Duquette was the one who fell on his sword after the fallout because Wilpon has the power to make a guy like Duquette fall on said sword.

So the article, assuming that it is accurate, paints Wilpon/Goldis as the culprits but Wilpon pins it on Duquette (who, if you believe Healy, opposed the whole thing) after the fact.

An EXTREMELY raw deal if true.

Not to invite a fatwah here but can anyone come up with an "Al Goldis is the Antichrist" angle from a non-dubious source?

Re-quoting "meaningful games" and the such is tired and old. The things
that some Mets fans cling to and lick is just sad.

I don't think the guy licking the puddle is getting maximum protection from that batting helmet.

The guy running that outstanding White Sox staff, pitching coach Don Cooper, played under Goldis for New York Tech. According to this recent Newsday article, he swears by the Tech program then and now.

I have no idea what it is, and I don't think I want to know. There's a lot more to the story, apparently; when I saw Kase's post, I googled "mets lick," and that's the photo essay that came up. It was too bizarre not to post.
