MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Edgy, announced at the end of the post game radio show:]The New York Mets today acquired lefthanded pitcher Dave Williams from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for minor league righthanded pitcher Robert Manuel. Williams, 27, was acquired by the Cincinnati Reds in the off-season from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Sean Casey and cash. In eight starts with Cincinnati this season, Williams was 2-3 with a 7.20 ERA. In 40.0 innings, he allowed 54 hits, 34 runs, 32 earned, with 16 walks and 16 strikeouts. On May 20th, in his fifth season in the majors, Williams was designated for assignment.Doesn't say anything about whether he has been added to the 40 man roster. But if he was DFAd that many days ago, he's already passed through waivers and can probably be sent directly to Norfolk without having to be added to the 40-man.Later

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Edgy, I think there might be an update coming shortly. I'm not sure if putting someone on the 15 day DL frees up a 40 man roster spot like putting someone on the 60 day DL does. The announcement said Nady was only going on the 15 day list.Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 It doesn't.Last I checked, there had been two slots, but Adams and Williams are now on the roster according to the Mets.com page. I don't necessarily believe them, though.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Nady's on the 15-day DL right? His picture here says 60.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 That picture lies. I'm going to have a talk with that picture.Thank you for reading to the bottom.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Bannister to 60-day DL.(He's eligible to come off June 26).
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 On the Mets' site's stats page, a D. Williams is listed as having pitched 40 innings this season. I'm confused. Did we just make another trade or is the website simply screwed up or am I going nucking futs?

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Bump:Floyd back; Milledge to AAAMaine back; Soler to AAA
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Next bump.heard on ESPN-Lima time again, Adams released and Bell DFA.But then I heard on WFAN (or was it the other way around) that Bell was optioned. They only needed one move to free a roster space for Lima.Unless another move is in the near future?Pelfrey?Beuler?Later
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Lima? Have Omar et al lost their minds? I'd rather give Maine another shot or put Oliver in the rotation and call up a reliever. Almost anyone other than Lima.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Bell was optioned down. Adams was the DFA.Lima might be a relief option. Maine will get another start before the break. It all depends on how Pedro feels.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Yeah, I'm going under the assumption that this move is in response to the 6-games-in-the-next-5 days scenario - and presumably all of it w/o Pedro - rather than something more permanent. Lima may get a start in addition to Maine come this weekend rather than instead of.After the break we go to the opposite extreme with 3 games over 8 days so it's probable that this is a one-shot deal for Lima no matter how he pitches.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 The announcement many have been waiting for:]Henry Owens - S - Mets Mets recalled RHP Henry Owens from Double-A Binghamton. It was originally reported that Heath Bell was being recalled to replace Pedro Martinez, but he remains in the minors and Owens is now with the big club. The 27-year-old Owens will be making his major league debut after posting a 1.01 ERA and a 51/8 K/BB ratio in 25 innings for Binghamton. He has a chance to be a setup man if his arm holds up. Jul. 6 - 8:06 pm etLater
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Probably want another arm in the pen untill Pelfrey pitches, or they might be auditioning Owens
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 If Owens stays, Lima could be sent back down after Friday's start to make room for Pelfrey.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I think that's probably the thinking. With 2 rooks going on Saturday we'll have lots of need for pen work but then with only 3 games in 8 days once action ends on Friday, we'll have little need for extra starters. So essentially Lima & Owens have replaced Pedro & Bell, then Pelfrey can replace Lima. I was thinking they could re-call Bell since we do have a DL situation but they're back-dating Petey's DL stint to before Bell was sent down meaning they can't do that. So unless there's a NEW injury, Bell can't come up until 10 days after his demotion (iow, after the break). They've also made it clear that Pelfrey's call is a one shot deal.I suppose that's always subject to change - but again, there are so few game after Sunday that Pelfrey would be better off back in Bingo or Norfolk.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Did the Mets, or someone really have a situation where they called up the wrong guy? I.e. they meant to call someone up, but a different guy came up insteadAnd I'm not talking about jokes, i.e. Duquette meant CARLOS Zambrano, not VICTOR Zambrano
