Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Well, considering that headed into ST most fans wanted:* an 11, rather than 12, man pitching staff * Diaz to make the roster over one of the light-hitting speedster types - even if he didn't get the starting job * and a young pitcher rather than Lima to make the staff if he proved good enough in ST Check, Check & Check ... meaning things aren't too bad if all we're complaining about is minor differences in which LOOGY has the (possibly temp) assignment.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Yup, many fears of stupidity didn't come to pass. The Mets even flirted with batting Beltran second. And, who knows, Steve Traschel threw five scoreless in his last tuneup.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2006 Posted April 3, 2006 The stupidity is in that we went from seven starters to Bannister starting Game 2.Other than that, I'm pleased.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Looks like, for the moment at least, my words have been shoved down my throat and are choking me.This is my last post as Lenny Dykstra.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Yeah, well, Benson's been on so far, but not so Seo.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 I was talking more about Bannister's performance.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Sure, I'm just trying to dial down your pangs of guilt --- heimlich some of your choking words out of your throat, as it were.
Guest mlbaseballtalk Guests Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 ESPN Radio is reporting the first change of the year. Victor Diaz going to Norfolk and Pedro Feliciano heading north
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 WFAN not saying nothin bout it
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 Nice to see Victor going somewhere he can actually take some at-bats, but I'd rather have seen Valentin go away.Does Feliciano being brought up mean Oliver's job in danger?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I'd guess it was triggered by the lack of innings we got from Trachsel and Bannister the last two days. It probably makes sense to have an additional arm available against Atlanta. My hope is that Matsui will displace Valentin, and when they decide to go back to one fewer pitcher, that Diaz would replace Julio.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 An unusual decision with Beltran out for a couple of days. Woody can always step in. Or out, as it were.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Meanwhile, a half dozen or so posts up, you're choking on your words.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Yes. I didn't really think I needed to add a "j/k" or an SC meter to my post right above yours, but maybe I should've. I was kidding around.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Of course. Just, um, pointing out the other stuff on stage for the less attentive members of the audience.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Iriki was DFAed to make room for Feliciano on the 40.Does Padilla not count against the 40-man limit becuase he's on minor league 60-day?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Designated for AssignmentStarting PitchersIrikiYes, up to three guys can be held on the 60-day DL without them counting against the 40-man limit.Interesting that Iriki news. I knew there would be some transaction because I showed 41 men on the 40. Seems to me that the difference between Feliciano and Ring shouldn't be worth risking Iriki on the waiver wire.Starting PitchersBannisterGlavineMartinezTrachselZambranoRelief PitchersBradfordFelicianoHeilmanJulioOliverRelief PitchersCatchersInfieldersSanchezWagnerTug McGraw Memorial Goofy Reliever Roster SlotCastroLo DucaDelgadoDonn Clendenon Memorial Slugging Firstbaseman Roster Slot

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 What is Anderson Hernandez on the DL with, an allergy to wood?
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 How come Pedro's the only one allowed to wear a blue cap on picture day? He looks happy about it and he should be.

The Big O Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 ="Marty Noble"]If the hamstring strain Brian Bannister suffered Wednesday causes the rookie pitcher to be assigned to the disabled list, and if Carlos Beltran still feels unable to play Friday when the Mets open their series in Atlanta, the Mets probably will promote a position player from the Minor Leagues for at least four games. That player will not be Lastings Milledge, general manager Omar Minaya said Wednesday. It could be Victor Diaz, who has not been hitting productively in Triple-A since he was demoted April 17.The player promoted probably would be returned to the Minor Leagues on Tuesday if the club needs to promote a pitcher -- John Maine, Jose Lima or Jeremi Gonzalez -- to replace Bannister. Maine is the only one of the three on the 40-man roster. The Mets won't know enough to make a decision about Bannister until Thursday, if then. He is to be re-evaluated in Atlanta. He said he never had a hamstring injury, so he has nothing to judge this one against."It might just be a real bad cramp," he said."The best thing is that's it's not in the worst place -- high or low. It's in the middle of the muscle."
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 One of our two loose ends from 2005 has surfaced as Jose Offerman has been reported talking to the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Jesus, I hope it's not Lima. I think he'd get bitch slapped in the bigs. Maine's been throwing alright. I'd prefer Iriki, who somewhat bizarelly isn't included in that article, but he'd have to be re-placed on the 40 man. Maine hasn't been striking many out, which is a bit troubling, especially since I don't think he's a ground-ball pitcher. Still, he hasn't been walking many either and could probably fill in adequately in a pinch.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 The 15 extra spots on the 40-man seem to be pretty crowded these days. My guess is Maine would get the call, unless they think Darren Oliver can make the start.I was surprised when Feliciano got called up and they had to try to sneak Iriki through waivers. Not sure who'd they be willing to risk with the need to add someone else to the 40 man -- my guesses would be 1. Fortunato and 2. Juan Perez (??)
duan Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 if a sport start is necessary and they DON'T turn it over to Heillman and promote on of the relievers that are on the 40 man roster WHAT IS THE POINT of taking up 7 roster spots with Heath Bell et al!
