that you knew all along that the Mets were a .500 team, give or take, they never had a realistic chance of post-season play, that this was a season all about getting to see what the kids could do, yyybbb, then WTF did you have to look at retreads on the downsides of mediocre careers blocking crucial postitions for kids? WTF --couldn't the Mets have swapped out their remaining veterans, instead, for other teams' young players, and seen what they could do (while WWSB was familiarizing himself with such intricacies as the double-switch all season long?) No, no, no, you've simply gotten hosed again. Wilpon has taken your hearts and stomped them into the dust once more, my friends, and you are still in denial.

I feel for you like I would for a friend dating a heartless bitch, determined to squeeze him for every cent he has and all but openly admitting she intends to leave him at some point soon. The friend gets furious at me for pointing out her faults (like her joking straight to his face that she's all about his money, ha, ha, ha) but as a loyal friend, I feel compelled to keeep pointing out the bitch's flaws anyway: What kind of pal would I be if I just let it go, and let him go on deluding himself as to his ultimate happiness?

Anyway, I'm shocked, shocked, at the end of your season, and must absent myself for the next few weeks at least from these parts: tonight my season, in a sense, begins. Red Sox-Yankees in September with the Yankees struggling for their lives. Does it get better than this? Then I've got tix (Theo's seats, of course) for the A's-Red Sox series next weekend--I may be able to get away from work for all four games, and it will be a perverse pleasure, because if the Sox manage to sweep the Yankees and lay claim to the AL EAST, then the Yankees' only realistic shot will be the Wild Card, that that could conceivably mean that 35,000 Red Sox fans will crowd Fenway against the A's AND ROOT AGAINST THE RED SOX. Isn't that just incredible? But if that scenario unfolds, I'll certainly be hoping that the A's add to their lead in the WC race, rather than the Red Sox padding their lead in the AL East. It's just so inconceivable (but true) that I would be rooting against my own team, but for their sake. What a strange world this is, sometimes.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that I'm not going to be able to post here much these next few weeks (on the top of the Sox post-season, for which I'm hoping to make at least one trip northward, my job has turned into a six day-per-week, 14 hours per day, monster for at least the next few months, other than days I can get away to Boston), and it has nothing to do with any animosity towards any of you. I wish you all well, thank those of you who have been willing to tolerate my posts here and address the content rather than the poster's personality defects, and hope you all have a good autumn and beyond. I'm hoping I'll be able to post here more starting around Christmastime, when the crunch should let up, and I'll be able to share my sunny views and sunnier personality with all of you again.

Seriously, you wonder why people have a short temper when it comes to your posts?

Thanks for the (backhanded) well wishes, Bret, and I hope you and all the other wagon hoppers lead the Sox to victory! Or, more importantly, prevent the Yankees from making the post-season.

I gotta say, though, I think the entire season has been building to the Yankees becoming the most unlikely of Cindarella stories.

I think it would kick ass if the Mets beat the shit out of the Red Sox in the World Series

i think it would kick ass if the mets swept the world series from someone else while the sox missed the playoffs entirely along with the yankees.

I could live with it if the Red Sox kicked the shit out of themselves. (See Game 6 1986)

But let's get to a World Series first.

Just read the first post again. Basically what he's saying he could've said in three ideas.

1) I knew the Mets wouldn't make the playoffs.
2) I told you so.
3) I'm taking off work for four days to sit in unbelievable seats for free to watch exciting playoff-implications baseball which you guys can't do in your stadium. Haha, sucks to be you.

To top it off, he's not a Red Sox fan, he's a bullshit bandwagoner.

I've appreciated a lot of the stuff he's posted, but if one of my FRIENDS said those three things to me, I'd say "You're an unbelievable prick, don't talk to me anymore." (Of course, I doubt anyone who I was friends with would do this.) Lastly, he was able to stretch those three thoughts out into a long post.
