Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 We'll dedicate this thread to announce trades actually completed rather than a just a recitation of new (and mostly false) rumors.Yanx get Rox reliever (starter?) Shawn Chacon for "two minor leaguers".No mention of who those kiddies might be.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Ramon Ramirez and Eduardo Sierra.Who and what?Chacon starts Saturday.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 The Yanqui system at this point - because their drafts have been mostly barren - is loaded with young, athletic, toolsy Latin kids who they hope will turn into someone someday. These two were probably part of that horde although they weren't at the top of the heap.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 28, 2005 Posted July 28, 2005 Stealing the glory from my "Countdown" thread.Cruel.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 The other threads are so filled with possible deals, rumored deals, suggested deals, rejected deals and WATPs that just reading them was starting to make my hair hurt.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 1) Now Nevin heads to Texas in exchange for Chan Ho Park. Not sure if it's Nevin-approved yet.2) Eric Byrnes packs again, to the O's for Larry Bigbie.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Nevin and Park would both probably benefit from the park switch. I'm guessing Texas is eating the difference in salaries ($15M vs. $10M). And they get to close the book on what is arguably the worst free-agent signing ever.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2005 Author Posted July 30, 2005 Nevin apparently does NOT have no-trade protection to Texas so he has no say in this deal. It is however still pending "league approval" which means it must include a sizable money transfer as suggested. Here's my question: Where does Texas plan on playing Nevin?1st & 3rd are tied up in Teixiera & Blalock. He has played corner OF and even caught but neither are really his positions.I don't see anything where that Byrnes/Bigbie thing became a 3-way involving Shoppach (NTTAWWT) as suggested in another thread. It's a straight one-for-one deal between Bal'mer and Colorado from all reports.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Nevin will likely split time at DH with the lefty hitting David Dellucci while providing the occassional day off for Texiera (1B) and Blaylock (3B).
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Chan Ho might be the happiest man in MLB right now.....after 4 years of ERA's well over 5 he returns to a division that can't hit with it's only great hitter out for the year and a pitcher's park that most hurlers can only dream of... Petco Park is where homers go to die... i still think he'll suck of course, but more to the tune of 4.50, not 6.00
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 I wonder if he even gives a crap. After all, everyone knows he sucks but he still makes his money.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Repeating my statement in the Mets Trade Rumors thread, Colorado OF Eric Byrnes has gone to Baltimore for OF Larry Bigbie.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2005 Author Posted July 30, 2005 OFer Randy Winn from Seattle to the Giants in exchange for C Yorvit Torreabla and P Jesse Foppert.Foppert was considered a high level prospect at one point a couple years back but his star may have fallen a bit since.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Jose Cruz Jr. from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night in exchange for minor league infielder Kenny Perez and minor league right-hander Kyle Bono.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Author Posted July 31, 2005 The Padres & Mariners exchanged scrub catchers by swapping Miguel Oliva for Miguel Ojeda.I'm not sure who went which way since I can't tell the difference between the two and I'm not sure I care to either. I just thought I'd include it so it could be submitted as exhibit A in the 'players traded with most similar names' category.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 And Geoff Blum leaves San Diego to go to the White Sox for a minor leaguer.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Braves get Kyle Farnsworth for Ramon Colon, Mets say nothing to report.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 The good news: Farnsworth has a suspension appeal pending. The bad news: 55 K's in 42.2 IP, .192 BAA, 2.32 ERA, 6 saves since taking over for Percival. Officially he's setting up for Reitsma, but don't assume that will last. Do Colon and Minor have any upside to report, or has Schuerholz once again made a killer deal?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Schuerholz probably has made the best deal of the day, Mazzone no doubt will have Fransworth as the closer before long, I think Colon pitched against the Mets earlier in the season.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Matt Lawton from Bucs for Cubs Jody Gerut
