A strange game . . . With that many silly mistakes, you've gotta just be glad we came out with a win.

I'm psyched about Castro getting more playing time. His pedigree and solid minor league numbers has me wondering if he could be our answer at C next year. Playing him more this season should really help us figure that out.

Reyes frustrates me. I know we all joke about it, but could we seriously sign Rickey to teach Reyes a thing or two about patience at the plate? If Reyes could just convert enough of his outs into walks to give him a .375 OBP--so not getting any extra hits, just getting on base more--he'd be a (legitimate) All-Star. He'd be batting .294/.375/.422 with 33 SB & 60 R, assuming that he continued to get a SB about 24% of the time and a R 44% of the time he gets on base. If he got on base at a .425 clip, he'd be an MVP candidate--.305/.425/.437 with 37 SB and 68 R. Without hitting so much as 1 extra single over that time--just by learning to walk more. And it's a no-brainer that as Reyes lays off bad pitches, he'll get more pitches around the plate, which will undoubtedly drive up his hits too.

Of course, I suspect that if Reyes becomes successful, it will be more in the Juan Pierre vein of pesky contact hitter, which is valuable too--just not as valuable as a Rickey-style pesky OBP guy.

Well, I'm still glad he's on our team. But seriously, Willie, leave him at the bottom of the order for a while . . .

Couple of quick thoughts before I head to bed:

*Eventually, Cameron has to realize blue is giving the inside corner and swing at that pitch

*Was Wright waving Anderson to third or Castro to second? Either way I think it was bad advice...I suspect he never saw how close Livan was to the ball.

*Bases loaded, one run game, bobble by Anderson who then throws to stone-hands Offerman. I think it's safe to say there is no such thing as a "routine" ground ball when those two are involved.

*I'm with Widey. I'm starting to think Glavine is just not going to come around.

"Eventually, Cameron has to realize blue is giving the inside corner and swing at that pitch"

Cammy's the ultimate guess hitter - as opposed to a see-and-react type - which serves as both his strength and weakness. It's what allows him to crush curve balls like he did in the 1st, but also look bad when he gets what he's not looking for. An awful lot of his Ks tend to be of the looking variety.

"Was Wright waving Anderson to third or Castro to second? Either way I think it was bad advice...I suspect he never saw how close Livan was to the ball."

Anderson to 3rd I think. Problem was that Castro saw it and took off for 2nd before realizing that Marlon wasn't taking the advice. Youthful exuberence on yong David's part.

I think Offerman's getting a bad rap here for his one bumble the other day. Yeah, he was a high-error SS back when he was a regular but now - like Woodward - he's bringing middle-infield skills to a corner position. It's not like I want to see either there everyday (over even semi-regularly) because they're also bringing middle-infield bats to a corner spot, but he shouldn't make y'all nervous w/the glove. Marlon's arm scares me more.

More Castro's fault then Wright's. Look at the traffic before you run. Works when your on the basepaths or crossing the street.

Seems to me Reyes has improved his patience -- my EP/PA (Eyewitness Pitches per Plate Appearance) numbers back this up. (So would the actual figures I suspect, but I don't have them at hand).

Reyes' major trouble seems to me at this point to be too many fly balls. He is battling the pitcher to deeper counts, but making outs anyway.

I'm going to agree there, but I can't understand why merely going to deeper counts -- only half an accomplishment -- has led Randolph to re-establish Reyes at the top of the lineup after only two games at the bottom.

I have to say that it was fun on Monday knowing that the Washtreal pitcher was fading, but then realizing that the 6-7-8 hitters were due up, but then further realizing that two of those hitters were Wright and Wreyes. I thought, "Good job, Wrandolfph!"

I say let him bat first, especially since there is no viable alternative. I've never thought that this was a season to compete, but a season to improve. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see us getting a playoff spot. If Reyes bats first, he gets more plate appearances and chances to improve.

Is Tom Glavine going to make the Hall of Fame?

I'd be surprised if he didn't.

I say yes he will make the HOF, if you look at other HOF pitchers like Gibson, Feller, Palmer and Red Ruffing they all had some not so good years towards the end.Glavine's NY years will probably be forgotten when the HOF calls.

I won't forget.

Also, the NYmedia won't forget. He'll prolly get in, but it might take him a while.

The thing that could hurt him is Questac. He's been so mediocre since Questac came into play that people may question whether he was really that good beforehand or whether he was just getting the close calls based on his reputation.
