If he clears waivers, I'd sign him. Can't do any less than Masuiro have done, and maybe he can play defense.

Never struck me as a good defender before.

When the Mets were in Seattle, the booth guys (who are disliked by ScarletKnight) were treating his slumpitude as a joke.

"He's been told to take some time off, and get his swing straight. And he will. An athlete like him, you've got to think he'll snap out of it."

"Oh, yeah, just a matter of time."

"Exactly. And probably not that much time in the great scheme of things."*

Bob's kids have a way of making teams eat dough.

That's unbelievable. I wouldn't be surprised to see them deal him in the next 10 days. . . .

wow.

I want nothing to do with Boone, the Mets IMO had better stay far away from him, he's shot, I think this is a great move by Seattle, dumping a 3 time All-Star shows the team and the fans that they are not afraid to make hard decisions and no player is safe, time to rebuild this team...if I'm a Mariners fan I'm happy, trade Winn and a few more for chips.

]Can't do any less than Masuiro have done,
I don't think this is a certainty. He was released by a pretty crappy team.

]maybe he can play defense.
It's the "maybe" that scares me.

Don't want him. I put my faith in Omar.

I heard the Padres are interested in Boone.

]Infield dynamics
The Padres haven't ruled out a trip to Triple-A for third baseman Sean Burroughs so he can hit in a more relaxed setting. Officials with other clubs said Burroughs has been on the trade market for several weeks.
The Seattle Mariners soon will trade second baseman Bret Boone, designated for assignment yesterday. The Padres recently talked to Seattle about Boone and have discussed putting Boone at second base, which would put Mark Loretta at third after Loretta comes off the disabled list. Seattle recently scouted Justin Germano, a Padres Triple-A pitcher.

Boone is due about $4.8 million, which could make him a better fit for a New York club. General Manager Kevin Towers has said he's more likely to trade for a starting pitcher.

Ooh! Let him go to the Yanks! "Old George" would have dealt Wang and Cano for Boone in a second. They can field an All-Roid-Wasted right side of the infield.

I realize that's a freeze frame. But that's not merely a tear breaking through the stoic visage of a jock otherwise trying to act philosophical. That guy looks devastated.

If the Mariners would be willing to take Matsui -- they're one of the teams NOT on the no-trade clause -- I'd be very interested. Hell, I'd pay Boone's salary for another team if the M's would take Kaz and we got even a passable prospect out of it. Otherwise, I don't see the point.

I wouldn't do that.

Petco Park should really help his power numbers. I guess his better living through Chemistry has come to an end.

That picture deserves its own Caption thread. Here are mine:

1--"Of all the years to ramp up their drug testing, MLB picked my contract year. Why?? Why????"

2--"And, on top of being released, I got this terrible dye job."
