metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 It's a pity Keppinger is hurt, who knows maybe he would have got called up.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Huh. So Ring & Koo are both up . . . Well, at least DeJean's gone. Maybe Koo will go back to his pre-injury form . . .
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 ]Mike Cameron had fluid drained from his ailing left quadriceps and could be available Tuesday nightI doubt he'll play tomorrow night.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 In the paper that covers the Tides, they said he'd be out at least a month. Of course, that was before it was diagnosed as a fracture, so it'll probably be longer.I'm a little surprised we didn't send Ring down and call up Padilla.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 Gerald Williams.Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Gerald Williams.Gerrrrrrrrrrrallllllld WIIILLLLL-YAmmmmmmmms!tap tap...check two... Is this thing on? ...
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 I don't know Johnny, he's a buddy of Willies...]"We just thought we needed to bring in a guy of Williams' experience into the clubhouse," Minaya said.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2005 Posted June 20, 2005 ="ScarletKnight41"] Gerald Williams to be called upNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Gerald Williams? why the hell are the Mets wasting ABs on Gerald Williams?
Guest SI Metman Guests Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I'm hoping Willie is smart enough not to be wasting AB's on Gerald Williams.I hope Willie remembers he still has Victor Diaz on his bench, and in his starting lineup if one of his 3 outfielders can't go. I'd like to see Williams buried behind Floyd, Beltran, Diaz, Cameron, Woodward/Anderson (whichever of the one who isn't playing second base that night) and Brian Daubach.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Rotty, since your last two requests to Willie worked pretty well, could you ask him to reconsider this Gerald Williams thing?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Well, the real question isn't "Why Williams?" but "Who Else?," even though Williams hadn't done so much this season.Eric Valent has a .176 batting average, and as he's move valuable longterm than Williams, I want to see him get his stroke before returning, so he doesn't have to pass through waivers again.Craig Brazell (.249 / .301 / .439 // .740) is an option, but he'd give the team three lefthanded hitters who only play first, unless the Mets dare to squeeze him into the outfield.Rodney Nye the Organization Guy is playing well (.314 / .390 / .487 // .877). He plays first and third and bats righthanded, so he's a little less redundeant than Brazell. The Mets have never considered him a prospect, but he's been something like a minor league professional hitter.Prentice Redman has been doing nicely (.309 / .377 / .527), but with only 14 games back in Norfolk, it's unclear if he's turned a corner.Angel Pagan has also been hot after starting slow (.267 / .322 / .391 // .713), but hasn't shown enough that the Mets are ready to give him a debut yet. They're probably looking for an experienced guy who can possibly help out right away. But even if you argue about how they frame the question, the answer, unsurprisingly, still isn't Gerald Williams. The answer is:Ron CallowayGABRH2B3BHRRBITBBBSOSBCSOBPSLGAVGEOpS
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Well, I kind of agree with bringing Williams up. We don't have any outfielders playing particularly well in Norfolk right now, so if you're going to bring up an outfielder, you may as well bring up a guy who's been there before. And I do think we need an outfielder, since Cameron & Beltran are playing hurt. It should allow Willie to use Diaz more, really, since he'll have one more warm body to use late in games--he won't have to worry as much about conserving Diaz.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Doesn't Calloway fullfill the "been there before" requirement without the "old and struggling" footnote? He also has still has a "young enough to still be hungry" line on his rsum.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 I'd rather Calloway than Williams, and let me officially go on the record as saying that I'm not impressed with Diaz yet.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted June 21, 2005 Posted June 21, 2005 Well, you all make good points. It seems like Calloway would have made more sense than Williams. I guess that's what I get for not doing my homework before issuing my missives to Willie . . .
