Guest Spacemans Bong Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 This is where Wright just kills one.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 The fight overshadowed this comment from Ralph:Ralph: They're gonna walk Floyd; that's gotta be the first time in a long time that they walked someone to get to Piazza.Me: Actually, Ralph, that happened the other day.And DAMMIT TED JUST MENTIONED MEL ROJAS. I'm getting the shakes.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Was there a warning? If not, Pedro gets a chance to become a candidate for Mayor.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 If that fight had happened, what would john franco do? Would he fight the mets?
Guest ABG Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 can someone provide a quick summation of the events for those who simply saw "On Field Delay" listed on Gamecast?
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 And now Oswalt comes a little too close to Piazza.Pedro's mayoral campaign commercials would have to be better than that guy in the NJ primary who has the camera spinning in circles.Lamb-Everett-Ausmus in the eighth; if the Mets pick up a couple of runs here, I'd say Lamb goes down.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Oswalt hit Floyd in the elbow; the benches cleared reeeeeeeeeeeally slowly, and that was that. The bullpens didn't even reach the infield dirt before turning around and heading back.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Piazza walks.Sacks drunk Anderson up.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Beltran singles, takes second on a WP/PB (WW), then Oswalt nails Floyd in lieu of an IBB. Finger pointing, but little else, ensues.Meanwhile, Piazza walks, then Anderson singles off Ensberg's glove. 3-1 Mets, and Oswalt is history.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Marlon pokes one past third, one comes in 3-1 Mets bases still full.Pitchin' change.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Pedro coming out for the 9th? Almost 100 pitches? I guess. . .
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 He hangs a backward K on Jose Vizzzzzzzzzcaino. That's one.Palmiero the Lesser gets caught lookin'. Pedro is untouchable! Three K's looking in the ninth, and it's a 3-1 final.
Guest Iubitul Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Pedro strikes out the side in the ninth.Wow. Just f'ing wow.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 On the post game interview, Pedro said he didn't know he had a no-hitter going. I don't buy that one. If he didn't know then he's not paying enough attention, which can't be so.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 ] I blame Kiner. He kept calling it a no-hitter through 6. STFU, worst HOF pick everGive me a break. With the Mets' history, the announcers are usually calling them no hitters after the first.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I would've rather Pedro not pitched the ninth. Every inning he doesn't pitch now is one he can pitch in September.
Guest Iubitul Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 I believe it. You get so focused on making each pitch, it's definitely possible.I used to think the same thing, then I personally experienced that kind of focus.I used to bowl quite seriously. One night, I was bowling in a doubles league where you are also pitted head to head in match play against the guy on the other team. He threw a spare in the first frame, and I threw a strike - after that, we matched each other strike for strike the rest of the game - I was so focused on each shot, I didn't even know when I hit the 10th frame - he shot 279, I shot 300.So, yeah. I believe a pitcher now when he says that.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 great game, great IGT...great Pedro, striking out the side is a Pedro signature to end a game, used to be anyway..amazing.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 No way I take Pedro out. He was just under 100 pitches when the ninth started. But, that's not the real reason. If Pedro falters in the ninth, well, it was a great effort. Besides, Looper is ready if he gives up a hit or two. If Looper saves it, so what? Nice game. If, however, Looper blows it, the fallout would be devastating. And, when Pedro ends it with three man vs. boys strikeouts, it is euphoria.
Guest cooby Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wonder if F.X. Healy is aware of the board moving. His insightful comments on cahn-fidence, nervous systems, and preparatory hitches would be sorely missed were he to disappear. I knew there was somebody missing here. I'd better call him up.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Pedro was something.I did my part. Had a softball game at 75th and West Side Hwy, tuned in in the 3rd and refused to get on a subway train until or if it broke up. Made it all the way to Bway & 59th.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Floyd is still very hot on the post-game, "I knew it was coming, Garner told him to hit me, every dog has it's day"...and so it went, payback is coming, at least Floyd thinks so anyway...
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 The TV guys were talking about an incident from last year between Oswalt & Cliff -- which I don't remember a thing about.Anyone?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 yeah , last season Floyd hit a Grand Slam in Houston off Oswalt, next series when they faced each other Oswalt hit Floyd.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Every inning he doesn't pitch now is one he can pitch in September. In theory, maybe.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 Take Pedro out and we miss this, pure joy..
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2005 Posted June 7, 2005 This makes up for my kickball team being swept in a doubleheader tonight.
