seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Fri 5/22, 7:10 pm: Tobias Myers vs Eury Perez Perez is the wunderkind, just 23 years old, throwing hard and having no idea where the ball is going. He’s 2-6 for a reason. 0-3, 10.00 ERA in three starts against the Mets. It's also Naruto Night, with special ticket package holders receiving horrendous orange Naruto-inspired jerseys. Sat 5/23, 4:10 pm: Freddy Peralta vs Max Meyer Meyer is their sort-of #2 (we’ll miss Alcantara, who pitched last night) with a 2.85 ERA. He’s 27 and he’s never thrown more than 111 innings in a season, at any level, and he’s already halfway there. 1-1, 3.48 career against the Mets. It's also Cuban Heritage Night, featuring Livan Hernandez pins. Sun 5/24, 1:40 pm: Christian Scott vs ? Braxton Garrett was in this spot in the rotation, but was sent down. Thankfully, the first 5,000 fans (like they'll get that many! heyoooooooo) receive color-changing Marlins cups. Guys to know: 2B Xavier Edwards - Speedy on-base machine. Seven-game hitting streak. SS Otto Lopez - Carrying my fantasy team, leading the NL in hits and BA. C/1B Liam Hicks - Somehow leading the NL in RBI? Everyone else in the lineup is pretty much meh. They can run, but are otherwise MLB-average offensively in most categories. Pete Fairbanks, the big free agent RP, is their closer. He’s somehow been worse than Williams on Williams’ worst days, with an ERA of 9.00. Just came back from the IL. They're managed by a guy named Clayton McCullough. If you gave me a thousand guesses, I wouldn't have gotten that right. Former Mets on the roster: None. All-Time Mets/Marlins Team: C Mike Piazza 1B Carlos Delgado 2B Luis Castillo 3B Todd Zeile SS Jose Reyes LF Cliff Floyd CF Curtis Granderson RF Gary Sheffield DH is stupid SP Al Leiter, Livan Hernandez RP Braden Looper, David Weathers, Armando Benitez Marlins Ballpark: loanDepot Park The home run statue was moved outside in 2018, but it's still a weird place. Went to back-to-back games there several years ago, one with the roof closed where it felt like an airplane hangar, and one with it open where it was absolutely gorgeous. Plays like a slight pitchers park, overall. Cool feature: the bobblehead museum, a giant display case with shelves that vibrate so the bobbles bobble. So when he got off to a good start that year Jody poo-poo'd it and said, 'just wait until he faces the Mets ... he'll fall apart as soon as he sees New York on the other unis'.  First game vs NYM: 1-2-3 Save in a one run game. Second game (2 days later): a 1-2-3 on just 9 pitches for a two run save. But since both those games were in Miami Jody then altered his claim to where Benitez would fall apart once he faced the Mets in New York, that had been the missing ingredient. Well that bold prediction crashed and burned too. In all, Benitez faced the Mets 12 times that year notching 11 saves in 13.1 innings. He faced 44 batters and allowed 1 run on 4 hits, walked None, K'd 12 and held the team to a collective 250 OPS Unlike you, I vividly remembered him w/Miami, but what surprised me when looking up his stats is that 2004 was his only season w/the Marlins.  whippoorwill 1

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29 Author Posted May 29 This is basically the exact same team we faced last week. So this'll go well. Fri 5/22, 7:10 pm: Freddy Peralta vs Max Meyer Meyer gave up one hit and three walks over seven innings on 5/23, striking out 8. Slider/sweeper/four-seamer, with some changeups and sinkers thrown in. Gets swings and misses, and leads the MLB in "swords," whatever the fuck those are. Sat 5/23, 4:10 pm: Tyler Phillips vs Christian Scott Phillips pitched 3 2/3 innings on 5/24, giving up two hits and walking two. Sun 5/24, 1:40 pm: Janson Junk vs Nolan McLean Junk hasn't faced us yet. Soto is 1 for 2, Bichette 3 for 4 in their careers against him, all singles, from his time with the Angels. Judging from all the blue in this chart, he's going to fucking destroy us. Guys to know: 2B Xavier Edwards - Speedy on-base machine. Six hits and three walks in his last four games. Plus, he's from Mineola! SS Otto Lopez - Still leading the NL in hits and BA. C/1B Liam Hicks - Hit two solo homers against us last weekend. RP Pete Fairbanks - has started to be the Fairbanks of old, with three straight scoreless outings. But two of them came against us, so they kinda don't count because that's not major league competition. Marlins Bullpen - has the lowest BA against in all of MLB. Fuckin' great. Â Former Mets on the roster:Â None, but maybe they'll take MJ Melendez or Sean Manaea home with them by mistake.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted May 29 Posted May 29 Great KTE  Janson Junk is a great name for a pitcher, did you make that up?? 😀 whippoorwill 1
