Sounds like he can be a factor in the Mets bullpen this year. Maybe even a closer of the future?

Lambert, one of the Mets' most exciting relief prospects, struck out three in a dominant inning of work on Monday against the Blue Jays.

Asked on Tuesday about the 23-year-old's performance, Mendoza first recalled how Lambert looked recently on the back fields and then commented on the right-hander's in-game exploits.

"It was eye-opening a few days ago when I saw him in a live BP back there," Mendoza said. "I think it was my first day with the pitchers and catchers, and I'm telling the guys to make sure you pace yourself. Here he is, throwing 99 and 100 on a back field, and I was like 'so much for pacing yourself.'

"Yeah, electric. Electric. And we saw it yesterday. ... If he throws strikes, man, he can be special. Not too many people can say that they got 100 this early, with a plus secondary. It was exciting."

In Lambert's performance on Monday, he racked up two strikeouts on his slider and one on his fastball.

Lambert was overpowering last season for High-A Brooklyn and Double-A Binghamton, with a 1.80 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 50.0 innings as he allowed just 31 hits while striking out 81 -- a rate of 14.6 per nine.

I thought “ how about that”? And it reminded me that it was used by Mel Allen on his mfy broadcasts .

Yikes!

Well now if he makes it he's already got a nickname. And his entrance music can be 'The Lion Sheeps Tonight'

OK that's not exactly up there with Timmy Trumpets but he's new.

I can handle a world where lions and whales have humanoid personalities. I can handle a world where cars have humanoid personalities. But a universe that allows for both is more than I can bear.

And then there's a couple of hats walking around and yukking it up? That's anarchy!!

Make up your mind, Disney! Is this Lion King, Cars, or Lidsville? It can't be all three!!

Lambert is definitely a guy to look at, but there are currently a ton of dudes ahead of him. If he stays healthy while others do not, there is probably a window to open later in the season.
