metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 17 Posted February 17 From The Athletic By Evan Drellich, Ken Rosenthal and Andy McCulloughFeb. 17, 2026Updated 10:55 am ESTIn a stunning development in the wake of a federal investigation, Tony Clark is expected to resign from his position as executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association, leaving the union scrambling to find a leader heading into a lengthy labor dispute this winter, people briefed on the decision who were not authorized to speak publicly told The Athletic.Clark, his attorney and the MLBPA did not immediately respond to requests for comment.Clark and the MLBPA were supposed to start their annual tour of spring training camps in Arizona on Tuesday. The first stop, a meeting with the Cleveland Guardians, was canceled, which the team found out from the union at 6 a.m. local time.Clark, 53, has headed the union since 2013. Clark and the union have been under federal investigation since last year by the Eastern District of New York regarding using licensing money or equity to enrich themselves.https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7052142/2026/02/17/mlpba-tony-clark-resigns/
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I'm sure the union is putting together a dream team to negotiate the upcoming contract I am available and my friends can help
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I imagine they appoint an interim director for the next few months. They cannot afford to be without a director at the moment, but the reps really don't need to be doing searches and interviews as the season gets under way.The idea that the racket catching up with Clark is a for-profit youth baseball enterprise reads as kind of scummy even if it is meant to be on the up and up.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Maybe they'll dust off Donald Fehr, similar to how the Mets took Frank Cashen out of mothballs for a little while in 1999.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 The MLBPA bargaining committee (independent of Tony Clark) has been working for two years on the issues. Bargaining is not expected to be delayed . The unions positions will be the same. Bruce Meyer is expected to take the lead and his background is as a litigator not a negotiator and considered hard core in his view and approach.Jim Bowden
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 17 Posted February 17 New reports say that Clark had an "inappropriate relationship" with his sister in law.The S-i-L had been hired by the union at some point so I guess that leaves open the question of whether it was an inappropriate personal relationship or a business one (such as steering union funds to a family member) but this apparently comes via an "internal investigation" which suggests that the federal one is unrelated to this particular tidbit.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 17 Posted February 17 I have to wonder... was it his wife's sister or his brother's wife? It's hard to say which would be worse.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 17 Posted February 17 We might have to ask one of the Bidens
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted February 18 Posted February 18 I have to wonder... was it his wife's sister or his brother's wife? It's hard to say which would be worse. Could even be his sister’s wife.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Wife’s sister seems less evil than brother’s wife. Not that either is particularly good.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Both damage the union cause.Of course, that -0.8 bWAR for the 2003 Mets is no small pecadillo either.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Why in THEE HELL can’t this happen in the White House?
