Was a Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month.

Died suddenly at 34. "Died suddenly" without further explanation often means suicide or drug overdose. I hope it wasn't either of those causes.

Never even officially retired, as far as I was able to suss out, and I have checked regularly since his Mets tenure ended.

Appeared in 10 games as a Met, all of which were Met wins. It is a level of perfection sadly sealed by this terrible news, and I imagine it is a mark unlikely to be exceeded any time soon, if ever.

Terrance Gore is the fifth player to debut as a Met in the 21st century to have passed on, preceded by Pedro Feliciano, Gerald Williams, Geremi Gonzalez, and Jose Lima (listed in order of Met debut date). Feliciano had been, until now, the most recent to play as a Met, in 2013, and was the first Citi Field Met to leave us. Gore is the first Met in this unfortunate category whose career entirely postdated Shea Stadium.

The “too soon” element is always striking when we’re talking about a baseball player’s death. Any player you remember as a kid dying, even at the age of 85 as was the case with Mickey Lolich, seems too soon. Any player who was playing recently enough so that you can clearly remember what you were doing as if it were yesterday, is too soon. Terrance Gore, whose lone base hit of 2022, the last of his career, that I stood and applauded ant Citi Field amid the final regular-season game of that 101-win season? Too soon barely describes it.

11. His only Mets postseason appearance was in Wild Card game 2, the one the Mets won that year.

Something happened during what was supposed to be a routine surgery. That's all the details I know. Just awful.

They say you can't steal first, but Gore latched on to a couple of post-season rosters because of his legs. It's a neat trick if you can pull it off.

Warhol had already survived a near-fatal gunshot wound.

The legend (probably heavily distorted) had the emergency room ready to give up on him, when his friends and retainers started stuffing money into the doctors' pockets, saying "Look, this is a really important guy, and you have to save him."

As dubious as I am of that account, it is true that he had ongoing complications from the emergency surgery and a followup surgery and had to wear a surgical corset the rest of his life.

Gore's operation was an appendectomy which, while it was deemed 'an emergency' procedure, successfully removed the appendix and he came out of in good shape.

But he then developed complications, possibly from the effects of anesthesia, which ultimately led to cardiac arrest.
