Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Division series game 5 against the Dodgers. The best Mets game this century?Tim Britton has a good oral history with Alderson, Collins, Granderson, Harvey, Murphy, and Wright:https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6716547/2025/10/15/mets-dodgers-nlds-2015-daniel-murphy-jacob-degrom/
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Best Mets game of the 21st Century? Maybe! That's an interesting question. A strict definition of when the century began would rule out two great games from the 2000 NLDS against the Giants: The Benny Agbayani homer and the game that ended with John Franco striking out Barry Bonds. The only real competition, therefore, would be two games from 2024: And of course... Honorable mention to: And there's also this:Any other suggestions?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Good share! For otherwise modest-stakes regular season action, I would nominate El Cinco de Mayo, 2022, Phriday Night in Philly. The Mets went into the sixth down 7-0, and into the ninth down 7-1 before scoring seven in the ninth, the last three with two out, before Edwin Diaz nailed it down with a perfect inning in the bottom of the frame, striking out Castellanos, getting Realmuto on a groundout, and fanning Rhys Hoskins to end it.Second biggest comeback in team history, the biggest ninth-inning comeback they ever got, and the only career MLB victory for Adonis Medina.

A strict definition of when the century began would rule out two great games from the 2000 NLDS against the Giants I didn’t think it was up for debate that the 21st century began on 1/1/01!The other contenders are, to my mind, in chronological order:-September 21, 2001 (Piazza homer)-2006 NLDS Game 1-2006 NLCS Game 6-June 1, 2012 (No-hitter)-2015 NLCS Game 1-2015 WS Game 3-2024 Game 161 at Atlanta-2024 WC Game 3-2024 NLDS Game 1-2024 NLDS Game 4
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Cinco de Mayo game not even making the top diéz!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 Games mentioned above but not yet represented by newspaper covers:
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2025 Author Posted October 15, 2025 Cinco de Mayo game not even making the top diéz! I think it’s just really hard for non-playoff games to get in there. The rally in Philly *was* a great game, but regular-season games are hard to include. Other fun ones are the Ramon Castro game in late August 2005; the Wright walk-off against the Yankees in May 2006; the August 2015 Sunday night game to cap the sweep of Washington; the 2022 game against the Dodgers with the Nimmo catch and Timmy Trumpet appearance…but they inherently can’t quite be the same as postseason baseball.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 June 16, 2013. Mets getting blanked all day against the Cubbieholes but Marlon Byrd opens the ninth with a homer against Carlos Marmolade and Kirk Nieuwenhuis ends it with a three-run walkoff.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Um, the Wilmer HR? Arguably turned the 2015 season around.....
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 I nominate 2015 NLDS Game 3 at Citi. I know it's not a close game like some of the others, but I can't remember ever seeing Citi delirious like that. When Cespedes hit that bomb, I remember thinking WTF is going on. We're going to win the World Series! What a team. I think if we win Game 1, we win in 5.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 Um, the Wilmer HR? Arguably turned the 2015 season around..... Cannot be overlooked. Probably beats the stirrups off of the Niewenhuis homerun game too.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 The problem with the Nieuwenhuis game is that it was a dreary affair for the first 8 innings. So much so that even as he came up as the potential winning run the thought of him actually coming through was the furthest thing from my mind. I'm usually standing and often pacing during a tight NYM 9th inning, but I was still prone on the couch when he connected. I was so stunned by the result that I bolted upright before the ball even landed.Still, that win moved the Mets up to a meager 13.5 G out of 1st and 14 G below .500, so, probably not a top of the quarter century kind of game.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 That is totally so. It was not only a dreary affair for the first eight innings. It was a dreary series for the first two games and eight innings. It was a game that rewarded the faithful and resilient, but man, it was a game that challenged the faithful and resilient.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 Helluva night in the moment.
